Smith and Wesson 625. Full Moon Clips & .45ACP

230g reloads and today several 230g Winchester factory loaded rounds. I reload with a 4 piece Lee die set. Whenever I shoot five and then measure the 6th unfired round in the cylinder it has increased overall length 10-15 thousands. (OAL). Turn and 1/2 on the Lee Crimp die, results are the same?

The simple solution is to quit measuring that 6th round....:)

Okay, I'll get serious. You may be over-crimping. If you use too much taper crimp you squeeze the bullet and brass to a smaller size. The brass re-expands more than the lead and you wind up reducing neck tension. Set the seating die to where it just touches the mouth of the brass. Set the FCD (the 4th die of a Lee 4-die set) to where it removes the bell, but not much more. Let the neck tension hold the bullet and see what happens.

Lee Factory crimp will not hold on to a 300 gr cast bullet in my S&W 25-2 when I am shooting hot loads. The recoil yanks the bullets out and jams the revolver.

Cast bullets need roll crimp for high recoil.

The Lee factory crimp works well for my jacketed bullets - Montana Gold FMJ 230 gr with high recoil.
