UPDATE RE: Copies of Documentation

Yesterday received copies from the SGS owner's son that were titled "Merchant's Report of Sale of Dangerous Weapons". The nomenclature on it ID's it as state NOT federal form! On it is listed the expected info, i.e. seller, buyer info, weapon info, date of sale, and date of filing (which HAD to be within 24 hours of the sale).
As mentioned earlier, the SGS owner's son told me that this was a FEDERAL requirement. Obviously it was NOT a federal form, so either he was wrong about the federal aspect, OR it was a state form/requirement that was FEDERALLY mandated (for EVERY state??????????) ??????????????????? I don't know?? MOST of you guys are a whole lot more knowledgable about this stuff than I am I hope.
Thanks again and I will try to keep you abreast of this effort as it progresses. Take care.

Just wanted to clarify for you

from the above post, that according to the SGS owner's son, these were the forms that they were required to fill out and file with the county/state as of 1/1/1964. Sorry I omitted that. Take care.

After 41 years 2 1/2 months

my gun arrived back in my hands yesterday. Just wanted to let the folks who offered advice and support know that what to some may seem to be impossible, is often simply because the "possible" requires too much effort.
The gun works fine and other than a little finish wear near the end of the barrell looks pretty much like it did lo those many years ago.
It actually took me more time to get it back from the PD where the dirt bag lived than it took to get it back from the dirt bag himself.
If I were a young aspiring criminal, I have no doubt where I would move to live and begin my life of crime. I thought the old "Car 54 where are you" show had been cancelled but apparently that was only on TV, because I found out where the REAL "Car 54" PD is, and they are still making a mockery out of law/order/effort/intelligence, AMBITION and COMMON SENSE.
I have always told my children (somewhat tongue in cheek, because I am NOT any type of religious zealout) that "my strength is the strength of ten, because I am pure of heart". It doesn't mean that I am Snow White or Mother Theresa but rather simply defined as I try to treat everyone as I want to be treated, and I will not tolerate any form of maltreatment from ANYONE.
Again, best of luck to all of you, and keep the faith. Thanks again.

Well that's just great!

Thanks for the update!

Glad to have been of some small help back in September!

Reading this interesting post now, I am wondering what you had to go through with the LE on your end, his end, and if you contact the BATFE? Just curious what the bureaucratic process was to get back the stolen gun, and how the other guy answered for it.

^^^ Ditto what kamerer asked. I read all the way through this and was amazed to find out you were finally reunited with your stolen firearm.

How did you get the scumbag to relinquish it? What - if any - consequences did he face?

Also...I sorta lost track - did you determine that it was a mid-60's M&P?
