I shoot a pre-war Winchester Model 94 in
.32 Special. That's the same as a 30-30
isn't it?

Oh I can beat that. I've owned the same 1951 production M70 in 30-06 since 1977. Shot many moose, caribou and deer with it. It's still my go to gun.I love this post.
Love that you've hunted with the same rifle for 27 years.
I think the Model 94 (in whatever caliber) is especially well suited to that use. Mine is a pre-64, but someone reblued it, which killed the collector value, so I carry it around on the 4 wheelers all summer, and in the canoe in the fall. A quality rifle that is not a family heirloom.I like the Winnie 94 in 30-30 so much I got another one from a pawn shop just to keep in the truck as a truck gun. Its the much maligned version with chrome plated receiver and a speckling of rust pre-installed. It must have been somebody else's truck gun before me. I wanted a carbine length in a real rifle caliber, and this venerable war horse just filled the bill.
