I know ups n fedex dont let mere mortals ship firearms etc but I saw a decent looking vintage springer I am interested in. Now guessing a lil high on size n weight I about craped when the lady said 120.00 ...I am glad I asked ahead of time!!!! not that I need another :p

well it was a fwb 124 or 127- could not tell from the picts. it was a standard stock and it sold for 220 or so after fees but not shipping. if it was a 127 I would be kicking myself. one picture only of one side. it looked clean but ya know it likely needed at least resealed. If I did not already have 3 FWB 124 deluxes already I might had been a bit more hungry :)

Keep in mind that the UPS stores are not actually UPS operations. As far as I know, none of the shippers (including the post office) have any rules prohibiting shipping airguns or that require special charges for them, but the store locations may have their own rules for some reason.

Sometimes it's simpler to go to an actual shipping hub location (owned/operated by the actual shipping company in question) to avoid dealing with the problems at the "store" locations.

I never said there were firesrm charges at all. No restrictions on airguns... I did not say there were. They new its not a firearm but there is a 30 something charge for over 30 inches long... it was still roughly 120 to pack n ship@

Not airgun related, but very, very true of cell phones as well…got ripped off but howdy by a “Verizon” store !

Sorry, I misunderstood.

Still, something's wrong very wrong with that charge. I just used the UPS calculator on their website to calculate shipping from Miami to San Diego (all the way across the continental U.S.) for a box that is 40"x8"x5" with a contents value of $300. Shipping from a retail UPS store to a residential location.

Next Day Air was under $90, 2nd day about $75, Three Day $55, Ground $33.

Its not that you misunderstood... I am not always good at getting what's in my head Into "print" :p

You said "pack n ship".

How much of that is for the packaging and their time to pack it?

You'd be surprised, that's about the going cost for individuals to ship long arms of any kind (I assume it's a long arm). I've been selling off some of my muzzleloaders and without a discount (Shippo) that & more is what I'd pay for shipping.
Of course I have to use USPS nowadays.

UPS and FedX have always been a little high in larger packages. Large as in h+w+l exceeds a magic number. Then when you add in letting them pack it, I’d say $120 was cheap.

business with regular accounts get a big discount though, so if a) you can pack it, b) break it down to several shorter pieces to reduce length, & c) have a friendly business ship it for cost, it can be much more reasonable.

yeah i know its ecpensive. IO shipped a remington 700 youth to a nephew and I had 80.00 shipping to their ffl... n I packed it. that was USPS- ups n fedex dont let inividuals ship even to ffl's now. I was just shocked that the airgun cost that to ship. I used to ship a fair number of r/c aiplane kits of similar weights and dimensions for a lot less. I know ya can save a bit breaking stuff down ect but this was the shipper the auction house used so I called before I bid...

I recently sent an air rifle in for repair. The repair facility said that FedEx was the best option and I had no trouble with them and I told them it was an air rifle. The guy didn't react to that at all.

Also, for UPS or USPS, always use https://www.pirateship.com/ but that does mean you're doing your own packaging and you have to be accurate about the package weight.

I've dropped off a lot of packages to my local UPS Store after generating a label from Pirate Ship and they simply scan the label and have never asked about the contents of the package.

I realize the common man is not allowed to ship firearms any longer. If one is allowed to ship air guns then set up your own account and shipping is a lot cheaper than that UPS store. If someone else is shipping do the label from your account and send it to them. I have done this more than once with an agreeable seller. I only use UPS stores as a drop off. I have UPS, FEDEX and USPS online accounts. Saves me a lot of hassle at times...

Ship as "machine parts". An airgun is a machine. Telling the truth ain't illegal and neither is shipping an airgun except to certain "types" of states.

Truth here. The only firearm I ever had to ship back was a CMR 30 rifle back to Kel Tec who emailed me a shipping label on their dime, noted as 'Machine Parts' on the orepaid label even though it was a complete rimfire rifle.
Now FWIW I've also been told that was OK since it was going between owner & manufacturer.
I think if I had to declare it something other than Machine Parts I'd call it 'BB Gun' or 'Pellet Gun'...
"Yup, sending my nephew Ralphie his very own Daisy Red Ryder BB gun. Hope he doesn't shoot his eye out!"

I had to get the postmaster to deal with a near-hysterical clerk when I went to mail a pellet pistol to the only authorized service center in North America - in Canada. They said a common carrier like Fedup could get it through Canadian customs, it had to be mailed. By the time the USPS got through with me, I had to have a FFL treat it as though it were a firearm.
