just got a steal on one of these and am quite impressed. i see its obvious defense benefits (except for the lack of a handguard/stop).

my question is:

anyone use this knife for hunting or outdoor use? the serrated side can be great for heavy utility cutting while the good steel and sharp straight edge can skin and detail fairly well i would imagine. i like the kydex sheath too!

The Pentagon is a great weapon, pure and simple.

The narrow dagger shape isn't suitable for outdoor use. You can't baton it effectively. The point is intended for thrusting. There's next to no sweep to the edge for cutting.

I bought one because I thought it was cool. I traded it for a Northwest Ranger; essentially the same handle with a clip point blade. It's now my favorite (and most useful) fixed blade.

The Pentagon is a wonderful weapon, but a useless tool.

Make sure that you aren't getting into hot water carrying a double-edged knife on your person. Shouldn't be a big deal, but in some municipalities, it's a problem.
I had one. For the reasons stated above, I dumped it to a buddy. Nice little knife. Prefer a drop-point type, as my knives see a lot more chore-type duty than they do defense.

Here is a pic of the knife I traded away. It looks deadly, and no doubt is. Makes me glad I don't have to do any killin' for a living.

SOG Pentagon Elite Folder

I came across this folding behemoth about 2 years ago, now. Gotta say I love it even though it is huge. I am a paramedic and I have literally used it to cut my way into a vehicle through the roof of a partially submerged car (nobody inside but it was dark and I couldn't tell, makes for a good story tho:neener:). It goes everywhere with me and I get to use the Crocodile Dundee line a lot to. The blade is a huge 5 inches and is 11.5 inches overall. I gotta say that it is the best 90 bucks that I have ever spent on a blade, EVER:D

My friend gifted a SOG Pentagon to me, a/leather clip sheath. It's neat, but I never use it. I see why he gave it away.
