Springfield XD's vs. Glocks

I prefer the Glock myself. It just has a better track record. However that is not saying that I would not feel just as well armed with an XD.

Either way you cant go wrong with either gun.

which gun is more reliable?

ive heard some anecdotes of XD's jamming, even if it was only a couple of rounds per thousand. haven't heard any anecodotes of glock failures, yet. Anyone care to bring up glock failures?

Okay,

Go check on their forum. I just checked the first couple of pages and there were 5 who reported problems.

No gun is perfect

XD9 vs Glock

Both are fine weapons IMO. As for the few portraying the XD9 as less than reliable; I have no idea where they're getting this information from.

I've had my XD9 Tactical for over a year with not a single jam to date. Mechanically, the weapon works flawlessly, and is very accurate. If I could take any of my weapons into a dangerous situation, this would be the one I take. Protecting the family? No question about it.

So I'm not sure about where some folks are drawing information from, but I wouldn't base everything on 3rd hand internet hearsay, unless you have first-hand experience with a particular weapon. How you maintain it plays a big role in how the weapon functions. Some range rentals are barely maintained, if at all, so I wouldn't base my opinion strictly on that.

I have no Glock experience, so I refrain from judgement on that product, but I will offer this. I worked for a large Police Dept. in the Southwest US (not as an officer), and they carried Glocks. The rangemaster that evaluated all the dept's new weapons told me he would swap the dept. to XD's in a minute if the upper staff would approve it, but they have too much invested in the Glocks right now.

He and several other Depts. have had excellent test results with the XDs.

I'm sure some folks have seen this, but for those who haven't, here's a test on the XD:

The Xd is a fine weapon no doubt but it is not in the same league as a Glock and its so funny when people compare the two, sorry. One thing that bugs me is when a company like Glock comes out with a real winner everyone and their brother tries to copy it, another thing that bothers me is Springfield takes the HS2000 and puts their name on it and doubles the price and sells in the US as the XD. I can paint my Jeep camo, call it a Humvee but guess what, it's still a Jeep. Not throwing down on the XD, they are a nice gun just my honest strait up opinions and the things that bug me about them.

Sure you're throwin' the XD. I have no problem with other folks using Glock's except when they portray them as "perfect".

They're utilitarian, have plastic sites and are combat accurate

Nope your right a gun is a machine and a machine can fail at any given time maintained or not. But I will say that the glocks have been tested and documented more than any other gun and have come out with flying colors (proven). Do glocks break- yes, I have seen new guns break, I have also witnessed a brand new chevrolet truck blow up when the owner left the dealership, anything is possible.

Well it may be Glock has run it's course. Just like the S&W of old when the ruled the LE market and Glock showed up. If Glock doesn't show some action, they will lose their place at the top of the heap.

Maybe that was the only good idea the old boy had. Oh well, itys' made him rich:D

...nothing new about that.

I've had 2 Glocks (23 & 27 -- still have the 27) and 3 XD's (9, 40, and 45 in the service model -- still have the 45). They all have been very accurate except the XD9, it shot low and to the left. I've had Glocks for over 10 years and XD's for almost 3. They have all been flawless in operation except once with the Glock a couple of years ago I had a FTF and it was a bad magazine, never had a problem since. The XD 45 is my night stand gun and the G 27 is my car gun. I have more confidence in these guns than any of my others. --- I'm not convinced that either is inferior to the other, just a matter of preference.

Every time a see a story in a gun abiout the xds, The groups they shoot are not on par with the Glocks, sigs, even the new cougers from turky. I would buy one if they were.

I like everything about them. Except for that, Bummer too. they fit mt my hand as well as my springfield loaded does......:scrutiny:

Come on now Sgt Stevo!

You gonna come in here and say Glocks exibit accuracy on par with SiG!!!

I don't know about all the magazines, but XDs I have shot are easily as accurate as the Glock!

My XD 45 outshoots my Glock 21 hands down. The only pistol I've got that is more accurate is my Witness 10mm but that is a function of the cartridge, not the firearm.

OK, now I'm confused

If the Springfield XD is a copy of the glock, how come the HS2000 was in production before the glock was? The Croatian military worked in the 1970s to come up with this design that evolved into the HS2000. Who copied who? Glock is an OK pistol but it does leave room for improvement in some areas. Plastic trigger? Plastic liner in the slide where the striker runs? No safety on US models, slide rails that break out of the grip frame? Plastic sights? Micky Mouse mounting of front sights? Needlessly fat magazines with plastic wrappers over steel? No second strike? Extractors that chip and break frequently? Non supported chambers? I'm sure there are smarter folks out there than me who can add to the list. Good gun? Yes it is. The end all of pistols? No way! I personally prefer the XD to the glock but then I prefer the Taurus new 24/7 OSS to the XD and for carry prefer the Taurus PT145 to anything out there in 45acp caliber.

Might want to do some more research-

The world trend of using plastic materials for making light arms, has dictated a change in the thinking of many producers. IM Metal manufactured the first prototypes of their new "plastic" handgun in 1998. For the first time in the history of Croatian handgun manufacture, a polymer frame was employed in an effort to produce a more durable and lighter pistol. Extensive use of CAD/CAM equipment reduced the overall time needed to pro- duce the first acceptable pistols for mass production. As we all know, it is one "thing" to have a good "paper" design, and another "Thing" to get it to functional mass production.

:D

BTW they was only one polymer pistol before the Glock and that was the
VP-70 which was fifteen years earlier and it didn't last many years.

I agree with das028. Track record means alot. I haven't seen many torture tests done XDs that are anything as brutal as those done on glocks.

Trigger reset

I own Glocks 21,19,17,20. I love the trigger on the Glocks especially the reset. S&W owners that also own Glocks which trigger is the best and why?

Thanks

Dave

I agree Glocks are durable. But, how many times are us regular people gonna be in a situation of dropping them in the mud, pouring dirt down the barrel, or running over them with a 4x4? I am all for durability. But, I am more into how it fits me. And again, that is not to say Glock makes a bad gun. Cause we all know that is not true. Glocks are a great weapon. They just dont fit everyone.

My 1st handgun was the XD40 Service Model.
If I had it to do all over again, I would still have the XD I have today. But I do like the S&W M&P series as well as the Steyr Handguns.

I highly suggest that anyone about to buy theire 1st handgun, to hold everything available, before you purchase.

While Glock has many fan's, im simply not one of them. But they have saved many lives I'm sure.

Choose Wisely, Life is precious.

and the problem is ?

you want something expensive to hang on a wall , get a 1911 ( I have one ), you want something to save your life , carry a glock . :uhoh:

I agree that they're a reliable, combat accurate handgun. However, I just cannot stand the extreme grip angle, 2x4 ergos, etc. The polymer guys now have far better choices out there, i.e. M&P, FNP, P99's. Give these new guns some time to prove themselves and IF they can be sold cheap to LEO's, I think we'll see a lot less Glock domination in the future.
