XD9 vs Glock
Both are fine weapons IMO. As for the few portraying the XD9 as less than reliable; I have no idea where they're getting this information from.
I've had my XD9 Tactical for over a year with not a single jam to date. Mechanically, the weapon works flawlessly, and is very accurate. If I could take any of my weapons into a dangerous situation, this would be the one I take. Protecting the family? No question about it.
So I'm not sure about where some folks are drawing information from, but I wouldn't base everything on 3rd hand internet hearsay, unless you have first-hand experience with a particular weapon. How you maintain it plays a big role in how the weapon functions.
Some range rentals are barely maintained, if at all, so I wouldn't base my opinion strictly on that.
I have no Glock experience, so I refrain from judgement on that product, but I will offer this. I worked for a large Police Dept. in the Southwest US (not as an officer), and they carried Glocks. The rangemaster that evaluated all the dept's new weapons told me he would swap the dept. to XD's in a minute if the upper staff would approve it, but they have too much invested in the Glocks right now.
He and several other Depts. have had excellent test results with the XDs.
I'm sure some folks have seen this, but for those who haven't, here's a test on the XD:
