along with the documentation of proper build process and inspections for complete traceability and accountability; refinement of design, manufacturing and assembly; small parts that were designed to fit the rifle rather than reverse engineered; six decades of corporate experience: correct spring design; proper gas port diameter; proper buffer weight; correctly fitted parts; proper surface finishes; many years working with suppliers and a long track record of delivering a rifle that's been proven under the harshest conditions in the unforgiving crucible of combat.

also giving money to the anti 2A party.

Also, there QC has gone down, and they completly outsourced all there parts now. Only 2 parts sourced in house are extractors and lowers. So who knows where the parts are from. and for there price, is why i went windham. Sure the buffer tube is not mil spec. barrel is 4140. But i but i could shoot that rifle just as good as colt, with just as many rounds down the barrel. I got a pretty good pile of windhams i got for under 500. in all kinds of calibers and configurations.

...update to the thread, ALMOST pulled the trigger on a Windham purchase but then....I found the Del-Ton custom upper option with a 20" Lightweight barrel. And couldn't help myself ( 20"+ lightweight sound very good to me.) Extra 150 FPS on the rounds can't hurt. So I ordered it with an M16 BCG and carry handle.

Then because I like nose-to-the-handle hold, I completed with the Brownells A1 stock kit.

And this LPK and trigger

Let me know how it shoots! I was this close to buying that exact same build (Delton 20" LW upper + Brownells stock and LPK) for my A1 knockoff. I ended up finding a different upper elsewhere, but let's just say that I highly approve of this build.

To be more accurate, it was the owner of Colt's, investment bank Zilkha and Company and one of its principals, Donald Zilkha. Not Colt's itself. Colt has and has had its problems, but let's get to the facts. Also, the article is written as a hit piece. I don't trust hit pieces.

Source?

So who knows where the parts are from.
Colt and the government. There is a paper trail

Nice. But to expect me to believe that when buying a Colt "you're just paying for the pony" is ridiculous. The facts don't bear out the claim.

I can not find the article about colt quality going down hill. But they pretty much had to cut corners after loosing all the contracts that they had. Leo and the civilian market could not keep them afloat. The colts you buy today are not the high quality ones back in the 90’s. So having there barrels made by green mountain (been proven) and there bolts and bolt carriers outsources (most likely the same place other ar15 companys get then from) and the uppers casted from the same source. So yes, i am saying you are over paying for the colt name. I think the mil spec m&p15 is better build then the colt. And this article agrees with me.

Coming into a thread between 2 distinct ar15s and throwing colt out there did not help the op’s question.

And yes. I did own a colt. I own half a dozen windhams, 2 m&p’s (not sport models) and a psa cheap build i used for none firing training. The m&p was alot more accurate then the colt then i learn about colts 5 moa/10 shots

The Windham sells for around $620 - $700 currently online. Not even close to MSRP listed by the o.p. I paid $850 for it 11 years ago. Since it's the gun I own and have shot MANY thousand rounds over the last 11 years, I recommend it without reservation. The thing is rock solid reliable, shoots everything I've ever fed it.

Sure will!

Someone said mil-spec M&P 15. Are there different grades or levels of the M&P 15 rifle? If so, can you link to the good ones? (no snideness at all here just wanting to look at a cool rifle)
