My picture storing site was not available yesterday, so these pictures are being put up a day late:

Lately I've been doing much more checkering on handgun grip than any rifle stocks, but this may show the reasoning behind my madness in making sure the checkering base has no build-up of finish. Just shows the checkering to appear deeper than if finish has filled the base bottom.
Hey sgw what do you charge for checkering say a rifle stock or do you just do your own stuff.

The flat diamonds involved with French style, or skip-line, checkering show they are flat, and supposed to be, but the smaller diamonds 3:1 size, do not have flat tops:

I went to your website. That is some fine work! How much do you charge for a rifle stock refinish?

I have done stocks for others, but only after I've done all the previous work required, especially shaping and finishing. The finishing of the wood is most important and what I need to accomplish my attempts involving a checkering pattern:

I'm not trying to be flippant here, but there's much involved concerning the species of wood the stock was shaped from. A good hardwood will take fine-cut checkering very well. If ribbons are involved and if the forearm would require a wrap around pattern, there are certain prerequisites involve with the forearms shape:

Checkering, as in this pattern has been done at 24 LPI, per the customers request on a Bastogne Walnut stock that I shaped and finished. The pattern diamonds were cut at 75° so that the checkering pattern was functional and provided a positive purchase for the owner to control his off-hand shooting. So, the only way that I can get get any sort of idea what your needs might be is after a discussion of what any customer is after:
