I've read a dozen threads about different red dots, but am looking for some specific suggestions. I have a 7.5" super redhawk. I'd like something silver, but ultimately I'll get a black one if it's superior. I am leaning toward the millet right now because of cost vs. quality. I'd like to keep it around the $100 price range, but will consider spending a little bit more. Has to stay under $200. I've read the ultradots are the 'best', but don't know if I need to spend the extra money. Also willing to consider an open 'holo' type red dot, but the quality ones seem to be expensive, and I'm not sure how easy they are to use. This will be for deer hunting, most shots under 50 yards, needs to work good in snow/rain. I really don't like the traditional style pistol scopes, I just can't get used to them and have a hard time acquiring the target. Thanks ahead of time for any suggestions you can give! Here's a pic of it without a scope, only has about 100 rounds through it:

Here is my Redhawk with an Aimpoint 3000. It is very well made. The optics are clear and bright. This is my only red dot sight so I have nothing to compare it to. I have seen these sell for under $50 on ebay. I am happy with it. Good luck shopping.

Do you have Leupold, or Tasco, scopes on your hunting rifles? You get what you pay for. (Sometimes)

There aren't many of the red dots that handle the recoil of a magnum pistol for very long. And certainly few of the Holo sites can.

You might try one of these: http://www.mans-toys.com/home/store/Hunting_Optics/DaytimeOptics/RedDotSights/UltraSightDigitalCompact
I have the ATN Ultra Digital like this one on my rimfire Bullseye pistol: http://www.mans-toys.com/home/store/Hunting_Optics/DaytimeOptics/RedDotSights/UltraSightDigital But I wouldn't install one on a magnum pistol.

I would advise an Utradot (tubular style) http://www.ultradotusa.com/ultradot_dist_2008_004.htm. Lifetime Warranty!

While they are a good product, AimPoint sights do not have a lifetime warranty.

But your choice of the Millett would probably suffice.

I have tried, Tasco, Bushnell, millet, aimpoint, Leupold/Gilmore red dots. I have blown everyone of them out. I went to an Ultra -dot over 6 years ago and it works great. I have a few of the 1 inch Ultra-dots and 2 of the 30mm Ultra-dot Match dots.
I use them on my 460 and 500 Mags, 5 1/2 years on a 500 mag with over 3000 rounds fired and it is still going strong, For under $200 you can't go wrong. My take on it is, buy it once and forget it. I learned after blowing up all them other red-dot that Ultra dots are hard to beat. It is worth the few extra buck in my opinion.

Good to know guys, thanks. Since I'll be using it for hunting I think I'll try and splurge for an ultradot, the last thing I want is a failure when that monster buck comes walking under my stand.
