I know this isn't related to what you originally mentioned but you should consider the following:

1. Find a cheap SKS and buy a boatload of ammo.
2. Cheap Mosin, and buy a boatload of ammo.

Ammo prices are only getting worse, you should squeeze out what you can before it isn't worth it anymore.

For an even less popular answer: don't forget your local or national RKBA org. Heller and other battles don't get fought by nobody.

But of the choices you listed, definitely the Marlin. Dad's got one. Very nice rifle.

I've already got an SKS with 1800 rounds of ammo.;)

Ala Dan, I'm not a fan of the 45 ACP, or the 1911's. I prefer the hi-cap semi-auto's, XD's are significantly cheaper than high end 1911's, I'll stick with the XD's. I can load the 40 S&W in a 5 inch barrel to equal the 10mm in the 5 inch barrel, stomps all over the 45 ACP.

im with esmith on this one, or buy bulk ammo for something you already have

Since I'm also getting a $90 refund on my federal income tax return, the $600 is not money directly out of my pocket....
Please tell me you understand that the $90 refund is just your money, given back to you after it was withheld from your paycheque, right? That it's your money, and you've been giving the government an interest-free loan for several months?

Same thing with the $600 "rebate." It's your money, you will pay for it, and it is out of your pocket.

Do you know what your actual tax liability is (how much tax you paid last year)?

hmm, never been able to get much over 2/3 fps out of 40 S&W as I get out of full loads from my 10mm. And that was really pushing the 40 S&W.

Hogden Longshot in 40 S&W, 180 grain jacketed bullet, 8 grains at 1161 fps, add 50 for the 5 inch barrel. 10mm with 8.7 grains of Power Pistol gives 1240 fps. The 5" 40 is pretty damn close.:D

I second the banking (or liquid assets) motion. We are on a collision course for economic ugliness. If you already have arms, now is the time to save.

The stimulus package is meant to be spent to keep the economy from going into recession!

Pssssshht.

BTW, depending on when mine comes, I'm sinking it into a trip to St. Louis, but if it is too late for that, I'm buying a gun. Simple as that.

"In times of Revolution, the new currency is ammo." I plan on laying in a goodly supply of components, just to feel safer.

And pay for these rebates we will..........as I understand it, the $187 BILLION dollars this will cost, was BORROWED.......................from China!

Hey TheReeves, why you coming to St Louis? Fresher Beer?

Papa,

The government didn't borrow money from anyone. It just prints up new pieces of linen with numbers on them. Out of thin air. Nothing to back it up. They're increasing the monetary base and therefore inflation. It's nothing less than counterfeiting. You know, the same thing that caused Germany to have an economic implosion in the 20's: printing money with nothing to back it up, to "pay" reparations.

I've already got a Mossberg 500 shotty with 100 shells.;) I'm actually thinking along the lines of ammo or reloading supplies now, good point guys.:D Maybe another 1000 rds of 7.62x39 or another 1000 bullets for loading the 357.

I'm actually not in need of anymore guns, what I have I'm pretty happy with.

Yugo SKS
Mossberg 500 with 18.5" barrel
Marlin 22 mag
Universal M-1 30 carbine
Nylon 66 22LR

Handguns:

Taurus Mil-Pro 40, for CCW
SA XD-40 4"
Taurus 669 357 mag, 4"
Ruger 22/45

I'm thinking ammo or reloading components.:D

It's our money, every penny the gov't has is our money.
It's designed to stimulate the economy. I plan to stimulate the eeevil gun industry with it.

Well I hate to spoil the party, but you might not be getting what you expect.
I just checked the IRS site and they have a stimulus calculator. Anyhow I thought my wife and I would receive a check for $ 1200. As it turns out we are getting only $ 600. total. Not enough tax credit on my returns. I just lost $600. in a blink of an eye. I think there will be a few dissapointed people when they see how much they are receiving. So the moral of the story is don't spend your money until you have it in your hand.
