The ammo shortage?

I have no idea where you guys are finding this ammo at! I have not seen anything that I need since December of last year. I have fought and spent to a of time on the Internet tracking down what I do have stored up. But I would not even come close to saying things were back to normal here in AL! And for those suggesting to buy a 5.45 and what not because ammo is plentiful then please let me know where this ammo is at because I did just that. I bought an Ak in this cal specifically because ammo was plentiful then it all disappeared. Gone. I haven't been able to find any of that either other than some wolf I got many many months ago.

I don't think they're talking about ammo you've stockpiled over the years.

I think PILE is the operative work here! Not that there is much ammo there (hard to tell, doesn't look like all that much). And I thought I was Mr. Disorganized. :)

Better reread your dictionary again, per my Webster's New World Dictionary-----
gouging, to defraud or overcharge.

per Wikipedia go to this link

per the Merriam-Webster on-line dictionary see this link
http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/gouge

Nowhere does it say that the goods need to be essential or a necessity.
http://www.thefreedictionary.com/price+gouging

Noun 1. price gouging - pricing above the market price when no alternative retailer is available

As you can see if you read the dictionary gouging of ammo is imppossible with so many alternative sources available.

Let's see, your location is US (covers a lot of ground), London (narrow ground) or Australia (back to large ground) we need to narrow it down a little.

Here in the US in the Columbus, Ohio area at the Cabela's located North Columbus the ammunition selection is full with just about anything you could want including .22 LR. My brother shops there. Additionally powder, brass, primers and other reloading components. Here in Cleveland, Ohio the Gander Mountain retail outlet located in Twinsburg, Ohio is also well stocked with ammunition.

Fot anyone to possibly help you or answer that post you need to be a little more specific than a location amounting to planet earth.

Please let us know just what the alternative source is. Or is it versus table A versus table B at the local flea market or gun show?

Reread his post, He mentioned AL, that's the state of Alabama.

The shortage is easing, at least around here.

I bought .22lr ammo at Gander Mountain yesterday and I bought 300 rounds of CCI Mini-Mags at Wally World this morning. And I didn't have to stand in line to get any of it. I was just sitting there waiting for somebody to come along and purchase it.

No 9mm, but that's about the only thing I'm not seeing on shelves. Prices (especially at Gander Mountain) are high, which is probably why there is still ammo on the shelves. GM had huge piles of .223 ($12/20), .22Mag (about five different varieties) and CCI Standard Velocity LRN .22 ($5/50)

Pricey, but it was still there for anybody who wants it.

Wal-Mart had MiniMags ($8/100) and after I bought my three boxes there was one box left. Probably empty shelves as I'm writing this but that's what happens when retailers won't raise their prices in the face of unprecedented demand.

I agree AL is Alabama.

My point is that when people who post finding ammunition or not finding any they should be a little specific. For example anyone looking in my area knows I posted the Gander Mountain in Twinsburgh, Ohio for example.

If I was in Alabama I would have said here in the Birmingham Al area I can't find ammo. Hopefully someone in my specific area could help. That was all I was getting at.

If you are in Alabama then I saw 5.45x39 ammo at Academy in Auburn last week. They had a full shelf at the ridiculous price of $8.99 per box of 20 which is their regular ridiculous price. Go to Gunbot.net/ammo and you will find the ammo for $.18 per round before shipping and around $.21 inclusive of shipping. Granted you have to buy a can but it is a good deal. There are two sites here that have had 5.45 at this price for MONTHS with slow movement and as of today they show a total of over 500 cans available.
5.45x39 has never been readily available at any of the LGS I go to and Academy has always been high on it for some reason. When I first got my 74 I was able to buy boxes of 20 for around $5 a box online from CTD and others but they have been out since the craziness started. When this panic kicked in I bought 4 tins of ammo and haven't opened any of them yet.

There are thousands of alternative sources from gun broker to bass pro to thousands of wal marts.

The term is similar to profiteering but can be distinguished by being short-term and localized, and by a restriction to essentials such as food, clothing, shelter, medicine and equipment needed to preserve life, limb and property.

Guess you need to read your own links

In either case there is no such thing if you WILLINGLY pay the seller's asking price, since you didn't pay, you didn't get "gouged"'; if you had paid, you did so of your own volition...................

So it's only"OK" to buy ammo that you need??????
I have been buying ammo for years, so I'm part of the problem??????
So anybody that has more than a box of ammo is "hoarding", I guess??????

Guilt trips won't work here......... If they have it and I want it, then I buy it. Save your $.02 for the ammo at gun shows.

No guilt, trip - nice insult, BTW, very High Road.

Just don't come on here whining about a shortage when that is the exact behavior that has caused it in the first place.........

Agreed. Doesn't look like that much. A lot of those camera shots are just shots of the side of the ones in the previous pic. He's darned proud of 'em though. (which is ok)

I hate to get into the dictionary bee here, but if most of the other "alternative" sources are priced above market, wouldn't that be gouging?

You can't really say Wal Mart and Midway are "sources" right now in my opinion..which is free BTW (my opinion), so we know what that means!

Silent Stalker, are you in North Alabama? I can direct you to some ammo if you are in my area.

No. If they are all the same price its called the current price. However wall mart and bass pro and thousands of other sellers have not raised the price.

They can also import Norinco ammo. We can't. When you have China producing your ammo, you won't run out.
exactly and that is why china will bury us. they do not cry about opening a factory like I hear from "experts" on the matter. they do not allow nothing to get in their way not like the defeatist ammo "producers" here

So if they don't raise their prices, but they have none to sell (mine didn't last time I ckd), that still counts as the current price?

Erggghhhh. I told myself I wouldn't get into this debate:)
