I quit wearing ball caps. I don't play professionally. Most ball caps have something embroidered on front that makes a statement - which they can pay me to wear, not vice versa. They fit too closely to cool or warm the head, lacking any space.
Boonie hats are superior in most regards -which is why they are still issue, and ball caps died with the change to BDU's in 1984.
For dress, I wear Ivy caps, which do almost as well, without making me look like a SWAT team member busting a meth house. And I get a lot more conversation from total strangers, especially women. Ivy caps are apparently more comfortable to them. Ball caps are perceived, IMHO, as being worn by another sexual threat. So, the ivy cap is more tactical in that regard.
