The Hunting Rifle Picture Thread

Here’s my Winchester Model 70 Featherweight in .223 Rem. I ordered it just before getting, unexpectedly, deployed to the sandbox in 1990. I had paid for the rifle up front and didn’t get my hands on it until 9 months later.
It’s seen a lot of range time and has been very deadly of several groundhog hunts.

Some of the familys new "hunting" guns.......and my primary hunting rifle with another dead thing.

One of my favorites, a 20” .375 H&H stainless model 70. It was a standard truck axle barrel that I cut to 20” and had fluted and blued, you heard that right it’s blued stainless. It lives in a McMillian stock and has hunted the world.

H&H, As the pictures show it is very effective :)
Does the short barrel come with any negatives?
Of course there is some loss in velocity. But does the rifle balance better? Is recoil unbearable?
It is a cool looking rifle!

Everything about that rifle is better at 20”. I lose about 100 FPS over a 24” barrel. Which is not noticeable on game.

Another favorite is a box lock Searcy PH double rifle in .470 NE. I used it to stop this buff in a full charge inside of ten yards.

Later on my way back from Zimbabwe I shot this white tailed gnu on a buddies farm in South Africa at 258 yards after an argument that doubles aren’t any good outside of about 50 yards. Argument solved.

This tuskless cow had been raiding local farms and was believed to have killed several people in the area. She meet her end with a 500 Gr solid to the brain in Northern Zimbabwe.

Nothing wrong with that! None of mine are fancy.

My primary rifle:

This Remington 700, in "30-Gov't-06", has put a heck of a lot of meat on my table. It now wears a Leupold 3-9x40 scope, much easier for me to shoot out to 300 with it than the peeps.

This little jewel is my "cheap & cheerful woodchuck killer", a Springfield 840 in 222 Rem:

I only got in last November, and it has slain a lot of varmints on the farm. A few months ago I got an old El Paso Weaver 3-9x38 AO from a THR member, and it's a marked improvement over the old Bushnell 6x40.

Unfortunately I don't have any photos of my home-built Savage .243 or my Marlin 336. I'll have to gather a few up and add them to the thread.

Nice rifles. I love the Mannlicher.
I have a similar laminate Hawkeye Compact in 6.5mm-08 that gets plenty of use. Very accurate and easy to hump or work in a blind.
