700cdl sf 30-06 does the work in my stands that offer 200 to 400yd.
700Lr 300wm goes with me if I have the possibility of 400yd or more.
I took deer with all three of these last year.
This year I have a new addition that I bought for Elk, but it may get out once for deer season. X-bolt Pro 300wm. 20210413_205228.jpg

Strictly ole school:

A pair of vintage REM 700s, one vintage 1966 in 270 and the other vintage 1974 in 30-06. They are almost identical twins down to the same model Leupold scopes:

nice rifles I’d be real careful of what Ammo I had on hand as to make sure I don’t mix em up that would be unfortunate in the field

Went high tech and new last season, think this season I'll go more classic old school on my rifle choices.
not sure what to make the cutoff year but I've got a few that should work out

1950 Winchester model 70 270 win, seems to shoot good so far,
1909 Argentine custom 7x57Ackley improved, need to get a scope on it and make a load up.
1974 ruger m77 7x57, shoots very well has taken many deer,
1914 German 98 custom 8x57, shoots cheap ppu into under 1.5moa with sights,
1915 custom Siamese mauser 45-70, very good shooter, overkill but fun, needs new but pad tho.
1891 Argentine custom, 8x57 need to get some 318 bullets to load up.
1977 marlin 336 custom 35 rem think it's old enough,

I'll hunt elk with my Tikka T3x lite and have with my Savage 111 both in .300 WM.
My deer rifles vary. Remington 760 pump in .06.
Marlin 336 in 30-30
Last year, I worked on an old parts gun, a National Ordnance 1903A3 and shot a doe in our early old mans and young kids rifle doe season.

This year, I pulled my old 1924 Spanish mauser in 7mm mauser. It's a 1916 Oviedo, was my first deer rifle and literally a piece of junk. The barrel is corroded, the stock is cracked but it's fun to shoot.
So, cleaned the barrel as best I could, put a very cheap scout scope on it after a field gauge wouldnt close, got a set of dies, my friend was selling some 175gr Hornadys and Sierra gamekings.
Tried various downloaded charges and have another set to try getting the velocity up to around 2200.
I'm still at 50 yards but this will be a 100 yd rifle tops.
Not sure why I'm this involved with this old rifle but the target is to shoot a deer with it and maybe retire it to wall hanger status. Next year maybe the Spanish FR8

I have worked a hunting load for my PA10 but Pa does not allow semiauto to hunt deer yet.

I have worked a hunting load for my PA10 but Pa does not allow semiauto to hunt deer yet.

You must have one hell of a long neck to shoot that thing as far forward as that scope is or else I want one of those scopes if the eye relief is that long!

I've never had to worry about scope bite with this combo.

Ha. It's a long eye relief 2x7x32

I'd like to give this a shot if Pa ever allows semi autos to hunt deer.
PA10 with a Leupold VX1 3X9. Load for it is 42.3 gr IMR4064 under a 180 grain Sierra TGK Gamechanger

This .458 Win Mag has been my choice for heavy rifle on a number of African hunts, especially when hunting elephant and cape buiffs. I've killed buffalo with .338 Win Mag and .416 Rigby, but this old .458 is my favorite. It was put together on a salvage 98 Mauser action with Douglas barrel and Pachmayr stock. It has express type open sights and a quick release scope mount, but I've never had to remove the 2-5X Leupold because it has never failed and been about perfect for all shots from about 2 (yes 2) to 100 yards.
