^ Interesting information - thanks for adding that. Is the Millett a 'better' sight than what was stock, or is it a general preference thing.

I do plan to remove the extra paint added to the front - it's kind of sloppy.

The gun was bought as a shooter, so the rear sight change doesn't bother me, as long as it's accurate.

The Millett sights are good ones. They are well built and if properly mounted strong, with a more robust sight adjustment than the older originals. You'll notice that they are better target sights than carry sights (at least the version on your piece). They overhang the hammer some, which is not a problem in a range gun. Likely they have some sharp edges that some folks round off a bit to prevent cutting themselves.

D-Man, tipoc nailed it on the Milletts. If you ever decide you want to make it a hunting backup sidearm, or critter defense carry gun Cylinder & Slide makes a heavy duty fixed rear that fits the S&W factory adjustable sight cut out & mount holes (like you Millett). It's nice and rouded off for less snagging on clothing, gear, and hands.

Here's my contribution (and membership application I suppose ;))..

Once again, welcome to our newest K Fans, and thank you all for the pictures. 336A that's a very cool ad you've posted, and quite an interesting read.

Good morning. I have question for you folks out there about the end play or clearence between the barrel and the cylinder. Is .008" to much in a 19-5? if so would the backstop for the ejector rod on the flash plate be one reason why this is to wide. Or did the frame stretch? Thankx for any input.

ugaarguy no problem as I enjoy contributing. New kid I am not familiar with what year your M19 was produced. However S&W specs for B.C gap is .004- .010 (MIM Models) I have heard of folks sending a gun like yours back to have the B/C gap tightened. And because it is with in the above specs won't touch it. Through some reading, I have found that you won't lose as much velocity as you think out of your gun compared to one that is at .004.
Mike Venturino (one of only two gun writers of whom I respect) wrote an article about non magnum .41 magnum ammo. His guns were a S&W M58 and A S&W M57 both had 4" barrels. However the M58 had a B/C gap of .004 while the M57 was a .008. He found out while chronographing his non-magnum loads that one gun would produce slightly higher velocity (20 fps) with a given load and then the next day, the same load would run faster in the other or be the same for both. So don't fret over it, as long as the gun shoots well just enjoy it.
I do have one question for you though. Does your cylinder move back and forth when the cylinder is closed? If not you are good to go. However if it does and the B/C gap measures over .010 while the cylinder is held back to the rear have it repaired by a gunsmith.
If this is a pre MIM model gun the specs for B/C gap is .004 - .008. So if you do the same as above and the gap exceeds .008 again get it fixed.

ugaarguy, Thank you for the info. This is a 1982 with serial 254Kxxx. It also has a stamp on the right side of the butt of 04748 with an R inside a diamond and an F inside a circle. the left side has a stamp of NT6 and a B3 and number 2 under the B3 as well the frame number 86531. which is the same on the crane. Just in case you are trying to keep track of these things. It is not in perfect shape like I have seen from all the pictures in here, however I would not want to use it unless I had to. The measurement was taken in full lockup and without being in lockup. With the cylinder closed and loaded it does not move forward or backward. With the cylinder unloaded it does move and that is where the .008 measurement comes from. It was snug at .009. I have checked the Timing and it looks like it is straight as an arrow down the throat of the barrel. This is the same weapon that is in this k-frame forum on page 13. The nearest gunsmith from where I live is 23 miles away in a place called Aberdeen and he doesn't do too much business. I don't know if it is his work or more guns are being built better. I hardly ever see anyone parked in front of his store. Thanks again and I hope to be talking with you again.

New Kid,

There is a sticky on the opening page of this forum which covers revolver check out. Barrel to cylinder gap is gone over there briefly.

Does an older Taurus Mod66 count to join? (I do have a Mod 15-3, but was wondering if anyone here was prejudiced against Tauri) I've got a 6" one because the price is right and it was in like new condition, plus a discount because they didn't have the box (which I never cared about anyway). And I didn't have a .357, but it felt like my Model 15-3, so I got it.

I got the Mod 15 quite a few years ago, has a lot of holster wear, but is real tight and shoots great. Looking forward to the weather cooling off a bit so I can put away my Mod 60 (no dash, the revolver and I are dashing enough already) and go with something a little more comforting.

I can now join the club. Picked up a pre-lock 19-4 in nickel for $400 today. The nickle finish is spotless and the gun looks barely used. i was happy with it so it was a good deal to me. Picks will come later.

I don't see why not. After all, the Taurus 66 is based on the S&W 66.

From what I've seen, the quality of their wheelies has seen a vast improvement over the last couple of years. We have one for rental where I work, and it's had a few thousand rounds (and less maintenance than it should), and it's still ticking along. The trigger's actually quite smooth at this point.

Anyone who's interested in the S&W K Frame revolves is welcome here. However, the S&W K Frames are very much their own species, and I'd like to keep discussion here focused on them.

Brand new club member

Hi. I joined the club today. :) Just bought a 15-3 4" ex-LAPD. I can pick it up in 10 days. I can't wait. It's a beauty. Easily 98% blueing left.

In regards to ammo: will it handle .38 + P?

Kranky, congrats on the new purchase, post some pics after you pick it up if you will. Also, yes it will handle +Ps with no problem.

My New Model 15 (I Think)

I recently came on this gun for essentially free. I think it's a Model 15. I CC a G19 and was never into revolvers. I've always liked militaria and tacticool plastic guns but this thing is cool! It blows my mind it was essentially designed 100+ years ago. I might even start carrying it in my backpack when I don't feel like taking out the expensive pistol.

Am I right? Model 15? Anything else I should know? I've shot a few rounds through it and all seems well. I think it may have been purchased 40-50 years ago and never fired.

What do you think? I've never owned/shot a revolver before...

You might want to do some research before you throw that "inexpensive" old gun in your back pack.:) If nothing else, sell it to someone who will appreciate it and buy another G19 and some ammo to boot.

AlexD,

As no pic showed up there's not much to tell ya.
