The Mannlicher Schoenauer

This unusual Mannlicher 6.5X54 carbine was owned and used by a well known hunter-explorer who bought it from Griffin & Howe. He was probably planning on some hard use in far-away places because he had them trick it out with G&H quick detachable scope mounts for the Lyman Alaskan scope plus a Lyman No 36 "swinging gate" peep sight. Also a compass embedded in the trap-door butt. The forearm checkering pattern differs from usual MS pattern with unusual shape, and additional checkering near the muzzle. It is one of my favorite whitetail hunting rifles, and every time I lift it to my shoulder I wonder about the places and adventures it must have had during its first life.. That is stunning, a Mannlicher Schoenauer came up for sale not too long ago on our local buy, sell, trade. But I didn't have the cash at the time and the person wasn't will to trade. Sadly it is gone.

Offhand, I could spend days at your place looking at your firearms as long as I had a drool cup in hand.

This is the 30-06 1955 Model I inherited from an Uncle in late 79 . He bought it at Abocrombie and Fitch in NYC in 1957 and had a 4x Zeiss scope mounted . He shot 220 grain ammo exclusively I think on his yearly Moose / Deer Hunts to upstate New York and Maine . I went with him in 1965 with the .270 Winchester he gave me for my 18th birthday , I got a deer . He got a huge moose that year In Mid 70s he fell ill from the big C and passed in 1979 leaving me all his guns.

I also have a same model .243 MCA Carbine as you bought within last few years , photobucket lost that picture and gun is sleeping in back of safe with it's 30-06 partner.

Whoa! Now that's exactly my idea of tasteful bells and whistles! In particular, that Lyman Alaskan in a G&H mount almost made me drop my coffee cup.
