The new Glock model 45

The main complaint on the 19x is that the lip on the frontstrap keeps you from using Gen 5 magazines. You must use the magazines furnished, Gen 4 or earlier, or change the floorplate on a Gen 5.

Seems to me the main complaint has been the baby poop coyote color (which I like).

I like the lip and solved the Gen 5 issue by not buying any, as I hate the half moon cutout.

Which of course is now seemingly being phased out on new models.

Does the 45 come with the Gen 5 baseplates, the pics look more like gen 4 ones

This would be a slightly better duty gun size due to slightly shorter barrel. My current issued 22 digs into the seat and pushes up the belt, creating all sorts of back alignment issues. This may be more due to my flashlight compatible holster though since the light extends past barrel.

Impressively they’ve kept the loaded weight the same as the 19 while adding two rounds...maybe due to the metal removed for front serrations?

OH wait you mean the Gen2 barrel that is now "new and improved" sitting in the G5+ guns.. Ha
I have always said that there are a lot of people that know a lot about things that they don’t know about.
I work in the Firearms section of a state crime lad. I deal with cartridge cases and guns. I match cartridge cases to guns and to other cartridge cases. I work hand in hand with Firearms/tool Examines who’s job is to confirm my findings so that they can be used as evidence in court. These Firearms Examiners also match bullets to guns and ID what gun a bullet was fired from. This is just a little background to show that I know a little bit of what I’m thinking about.
Glock uses Polygonal rifling as others do, but they are all slightly different from each other. The problem with Polygonal rifling is that you can tell what brand gun it was fired from, but extremely hard to match to a gun.
This was a problem for police departments that used Glocks and had more then one officer involved in a shooting. If two officers fired at a bad guy and the bad guy was only hit once, most often they could not tell which gun the bullest came from.
Glock started offering what was called the Glock marking barrel. These barrels had a slight ridge on each side of the Polygonal rifling. This helped but was nothing close to standard rifling. When the Gen 4 Glocks came out a new Glock marking barrel was made standard. These new barrels made it easier to match the bullets to the gun. The Gen5s had the same barrel. Here’s a pic of a G43 barrel. You can see the ridges along the sides of the polygonal rifling. The fingers in the pic belong to one of my lovely coworkers.

For the military HMS test the pistols were required to shoot 4” groups at 50 yards. Glock designed the new Marksman barrel for the HMS testing and found that it would shoot 3” groups at 50 yards.
The Marksman barrel is a hybrid Polygonal rifled barrel.

Got me all excited thinking there is unique Glock .45ACP coming along. I will say black is big improvement over baby poop color. I don't understand why military wants baby poop colored stuff as Russia has completely taken over initiative in the Middle East.
It isn't only that. Flat dark earth is such a stupid and misleading name. Baby poop makes much more sense. Completely descriptive. I have never seen a flat dark earth gun I didn't think was ugly.

But this is why things don’t happen. All those wanting something different don’t ask for it. They figure that someone else will do it for them. So instead of 100 people contacting Glock, only 15 out of 100 are contacting them.
That phenomenon is treated in game theory. If you know the math (I don't), you can figure the likelihood of someone else asking so you don't have to, someone else calling to complain about the power outage, or someone else stopping for the stranded motorist, etc. It is kind of a squirrely area of science, but there you go. I remember reading a an article about it in Playboy (yes, an article) probably 55 years ago.

If the power company gets 50 calls from my neighborhood and one from your neighborhood, where do you think they will go first?
It doesn’t work that way. They investigate and learn how many houses are affected. It is just necessary to get their attention to the existence of the problem.

Besides the game theory addresses your question too. How many people have to call to get a result.

I find it hard to trust the opinion of anyone who reads articles in Playboy. ;)

Of all the different colors of guns these days, FDE or a similar color is the most popular. But then you must be one of the ones that thought everyone else would have called the manufacturers to let them know that it was ugly.
But then we’re not talking about the 19X. We’re talking about the G45 and it is in black. It’s amazing how so many people feel the need to let everyone know that they don’t like something.

I hear you. Just riffing on the baby poop thing for grins and to get some back and forth started. Seems like I succeeded, eh? I accept my idiosyncrasies and revel in them. But I do like black.

As for the Playboy thing, I would say it seems like it was yesterday, except, you know what, it really doesn't. Man that was a long, long time ago.

I like the grip on the 19X more then the G45.

The G45 9mm has a flared magwell that I could live with or without. My 19x has an extended lip on the frontstrap of the grip that the G45 does not have. So I can’t use Gen5 G17 magazines without changing out those mag baseplates to the earlier baseplates, no big deal here.

I saw the G45 today for the first time at an LGS / LGR, after I got done shooting my 19x, I’m sure they are going to sell a ton of these especially to law enforcement.

Is anyone else worried that Glock isn't that far away from needing to adopt three digit model numbers? Horrors!

You do realize we are on a discussion board right? If we all agreed on everything, this place would become stale rather quickly. Obviously you're impressed. Not so much on my end.

I already own 5 glocks and can make quite a number of different combinations without having to buy something new. :neener:

The good news is that as long as they keep raiding the cookie jar for something "new".. they have approximately 915,103,765 more numbers to use.. (based on S. Eilers 6 Lego bricks combinations )

This is a discussion board?? You could have fooled me when it comes to any topic on a new Glock pistol. A discussion is talking about the pros and cons and what one likes or doesn’t like about the topic gun. But it seems when it comes to Glock pistols the Glock haters come out and bash it like they are being paid by George Soros to start a riot.
There are guns I don’t like, but I don’t search for topics on then just to let everyone that I don’t like them.
When the Gen5 came out I had planed to get one of the 19s, but the finger cutout at the front of the grip and flared mag well just killed it for me.
When I looked at the 19x I really liked how it felt in my hand. I liked it so much that I bought one. My son liked the 19x so much that he sold his Gen4 G17 and got himself a 19x.
I was lucky that I was able to put my hands on the G45 before it came out for sale and allowed to take pics so that I could start this topic. I like the G45 and will most likely pick one up in the next few weeks.

Discussion containing actual discussion of features, function, good, bad, etc is often entertaining AND educational.

But- as with the 19X, 50 posts saying nothing but "Don't like it, ain't gonna get one" is useless, if not downright worthless.
That is not discussion, it's people mistakenly conducting an un-invited & un-wanted Yes/No opinion poll.

I've got the M&P 2.0 in the 4", the 4.25" with full size grip and the 5" with full size grip. Can enjoy as they come or configure with full grip with short slide or short grip with either of the two longer sizes. Not the reason why I bought them, love the new 2.0 pistols, but it's a nice option to have being able to switch slides and frames (plus the 5" being FDE let's me mix and match colors). Got to love options. I've got the 19X also, still in the safe unfired.

@GunnyUSMC, you're right. I didn't add anything constructive. That wasn't very High Road of me.

I did handle one the other day and was thoroughly confused as to why someone would choose a G45 over a G19, but to each his or her own.

After endless discussion of "why" Glock did a pistol with a short upper and a long lower, it boils down to individual likes & preferences for different feature sets.

Seriously- if you DON'T understand, that's fine.
It's just a waste of everybody's time & space here if all you've got to contribute is "I don't like it" or "I don't understand why". :)

There are literally millions of gun owners who don't choose a Glock at all, of any persuasion.
Is it necessary to understand "why" in every one of those cases where somebody bought something different from what YOU like?

I don't understand why someone would choose a Glock 19 over a Smith M&P 2.0 Compact.
Do I have to?
Do I have to tell the entire world, EVERY TIME THE GLOCK 19 comes up anywhere that "I DON'T LIKE IT"?
