The new Glock model 45

@GunnyUSMC,

I did handle one the other day and was thoroughly confused as to why someone would choose a G45 over a G19, but to each his or her own.
That's easy. It's black. Not everyone likes the color of the 19X. Some LEOs are allowed or have to buy there own sidearm and black is the most common color for handguns.
I see the G45 filling the ranks of police departments in the next few years.

...”why” Glock did a pistol with a short upper and a long lower...

...for the same reason that every 1911 manufacturer makes a commander length model! If folks want to “B&C” that Glock rolls out the Model 45 for whatever their motivation is, without even testing out the very similar 19x model, well I have a 19x and the concept works for me and I have the range targets to prove it if need be. If somebody does a range test of the 19x or the model 45 and for whatever reason decides they don’t like it, then they are rendering an informed opinion about the pistol, instead of the B&C about the color of the 19x or you can’t conceal carry the 19x, I most certainly can carry my 19x very nicely with the G17 & 19 holsters that I already have!

After endless discussion of "why" Glock did a pistol with a short upper and a long lower, it boils down to individual likes & preferences for different feature sets.

Seriously- if you DON'T understand, that's fine.
It's just a waste of everybody's time & space here if all you've got to contribute is "I don't like it" or "I don't understand why". :)

There are literally millions of gun owners who don't choose a Glock at all, of any persuasion.
Is it necessary to understand "why" in every one of those cases where somebody bought something different from what YOU like?

I don't understand why someone would choose a Glock 19 over a Smith M&P 2.0 Compact.
Do I have to?
Do I have to tell the entire world, EVERY TIME THE GLOCK 19 comes up anywhere that "I DON'T LIKE IT"?
Denis

I currently carry a 19 but can’t stop thinking about 2.0s and wonder how they shoot and carry compared to my 19.

its their 45th patent.... hence the model number
another gun I did not know I needed until I saw it :)

As a lefty, the G19 Gen5 was good for me, but like (some) others have mentioned, the cutout at the front of the magwell isn't comfortable.

If I can hold a G45, and it feels better, I'd dump my Gen 5 19 in a second.

The new MOS FS 19 doesn't have the cutout. I do wonder if they realized people hate it since the new MOS models and the 45 dont have it.

Glock went full "Mall-Ninja" on this one. FCS to go along with the rails. Not interested.
It’s hard for some to understand but Glock did not design the G45 for the civilian market. It’s target is Law enforcement.
With the 19X and now the G45, Glock has managed to ruffle the feathers of the Glock Haters and many Glock owners.

yet with a 35% downturn in revenue. (as reported by Bloomberg). they think this is the answer?

Welcome to this millennium. Not too many poly/striker guns coming out these days without rails, most have FS too.

Heck, apart from 1911s and micro guns, not too many new handguns, period, dont have one or both.

Gun sales are down everywhere.
Colt digs out one of it’s old revolver designs, makes it in stainless and everyone talks about how great it is. But this is nothing new for Colt and they are still in financial trouble.
Glock puts out something new and many Glock owners cry because it wasn’t the gun they wanted. But Glock is not in financial trouble.
When a new gun hits the market, I like to have a look at it before I pass judgment. If I don’t like it, I don’t feel the need to run out and let everyone know. If someone else likes it, it doesn’t hurt my feelings.
I’m starting to think we should make a safe place with stuff animals for the ones that don’t like the 19X and G45.

I stop by Accurate Police Supply at lunch time and picked up a G45 on the Blue Label deal. I fired a few rounds in the recovery tank and a few into the backstop. It shoots and feels the same as the 19X.
It has the standard plastic Glock sights that I’ll replace tomorrow with a set of Ameriglo sight.

Here are bullets from a few Glocks so that y’all can see that there is a difference in the new barrels.

I don’t have an example from a 19 Gen4, but here is one from a 17 Gen4.

I kinda stopped paying attention to Glock products after Gen 3 came out. The only outstanding product since then was Gen 4 G40.

The thing that always gets me is how quickly people pass judgment on the 19x and Model 45 without having even tried one out. I even get a kick out of the “baby poop” color comments about the 19x. What people don’t often realize is that this gun was Glock’s entry into the M17 DOD trials. And any black colored gun that is exposed for any length of time to the desert sun over in the sandbox is going to burn your your hand something fierce when you go for it out of a chest rig. I really like the way my 19x shoots, and as long as I like it then it’s OK for me. At this stage of the game, the only people we need to please is ourselves!

Not to mention it is nearly the same color as the FN 509 tac and M17, yet no complaints from those quarters.

Actually I've shot a 19x. A friend bought one as soon as they came out. We all took it out and shot it and I said most of the same things to him that I did earlier in this thread (minus the baby poop comment since I have a Lipsey G21.4 in that color).

Gun banter where you're officially joking around (... but where you say what you mean ... but where at the same time you don't really care that much and you're just messing around) with other shooters doesn't translate too well online.

The G45 is just a black 19x with front slide serrations.
Edit : Actually looking back I didn't say anything bad about it other than a mostly silent "(jeeze) I wish they'd put out .."
