Lots of real good selection and real world experience. Thak you all
Hopefully I can curb my addiction to these wheel guns with a nice 357. But probably not.
I just have to remember the deck I need to rebuild.....If I don't, I got a bad feeling yall might see my misso on the news in the back of a police car.....

A 357 mag revolver gets lonely by itself. Before you know it it will want a brother in 44 mag!

Now, if you can find a Vintage Taurus 689 with the 6 inch vent rib barrel I can also highly recommend it.
Mine has bluing that is as close to perfect as you can get and the fit and finish is also top notch.

Hard to beat a 6inch GP100 at the range. It will take alot of heavy loads, though I think a 4 inch would be better for casual carry.

A 4” GP-100. A great all-arounder that will be an oak in your gun collection. Hunter, belt gun, home defender, range gun, and, with a little care, heirloom. Someone will be selling it on Gunbroker 100 years from now.

So much good advice before this post, I truly mean that. Hardest part for me is there are so many good choices and to this day if someone is looking to own one handgun, I say 357. I’m a smaller framed guy and 65 and have a hard time accurately shooting 6” barrel revolvers with a full lug. Another thing I’ve learned is that trigger pull weight and other trigger characteristics make a world of difference. Able to buy a few nicer guns as I’ve aged I have found out how much a quality trigger adds to my accuracy. Most recently confirmed that while comparing my now favorite length barrel 357’s, the three inch barrel.

All are great shooters and accurate but the Kimber and Colt triggers are excellent.

Regardless of barrel length and lug length, it is a plus to be able to feel the trigger you are buying. Good thing is that most triggers can be smoothed and improved. Pull weight is critical but smoothness also has its benefits!

A lot of it depends on the size and shape of your hand.

You can also get a Model XX that has a better or worse than average trigger for that model.

Between us, my FiL and I have Smith K, L, and N frames in 38/357, as well as a GP100, a Blackhawk, and a couple of Taurii. They range in barrel length from 2" to 8 3/8".

They all work just fine.

On average the Smiths will tend to have the best triggers.

My N frame Model 28 is probably my favorite, but I have very large hands.

6" is way better for plinking or possible hunting, IMHO.

If it will be carried sometimes, then 4" would be better.

Depending on hand size, I would be looking for a classic used S&W L or N frame. The newer ones are just not as nice.

My FiL's GP100 is perfectly fine. It has a better than average trigger for that model. He shoots it very well.

I really like my 357 Blackhawk, but the OP already has those.

My two Taurus 357's are very nice, but they are older models. Like the S&W, I don't think the new ones are as good as the nicest older ones.
