So I saw this post http://www.thehighroad.org/showthread.php?p=2937116 and decided what the hell, I was going to get a revolver for xmas, so might as well get one today, so I have some pics to post and p off few libs even more, since it's my second gun this month  (first gun this month: http://www.thehighroad.org/showthread.php?p=2912008#post2912008 ).

So as i'm filling up the federal transfer form, a guy walks into the store, while two other store workers (armed) are behind the counter. a dude walks in, reaching behind his back and pulling out a glock like he's about to shoot up the place:what: :what: :what: and heads straight for the counter where the two sales guys are. as one of the sales guys reaches for his weapon (he later said he assumed the worse and was about to pop the guy who walked in) the idiot puts the glock on the glass counter (turned out the glock was unloaded, just concealed) saying "what? what just happened" cuz he saw the two dudes with hands on their guns looking straight at him. so finally the sales guy explains "well, maybe you shouldn't walk into stores and pull out your gun!!!"

the dude almost shot the guy. and the scary thing... it all took 2 seconds!

so anyways, i got out of there in few minutes with my first revolver :D

I agree, the guy was pretty foolish for pulling out his gun like he did. He's very lucky they didn't draw on him, but I'm sure he's learned his lesson after that.

Edited to prevent further flaming.

We used to get that all the time.

Old ladies would bring their dead husbands old guns in in their purses. Scared the **** out of me.

If you want to bring a gun to a gunstore to sell or exchange it, how do you politely do that? Bring it in a bag?

Any bag but this:

Seriously though, I'd say a gun case or something along those lines.

Wow. You can never exclude the stupid factor from appearing without warning in day to day life. That guy was either real dim or really daydreaming to not realize how close he came to getting shot.

Sorry for my spontaneous reply earlier. I was just floored. Came in. Whipped out gun. Advanced towards clerks. Eee-yai! I'm just glad they reacted in a measured way. That could have been a hose out of epic proportions.

PS: If you want to avoid people making fun of your posts, post with decent grammar. Not trying to insult you, just to give you a heads up.

I believe English isn't armedpolak's first language.

Q. Why would you draw a gun in any store and walk towards the counter without saying a word?
A. STUPID!!
turned out the glock was unloaded, just concealed
Q. If the gun was NOT loaded what was the reason for carrying it concealed?
A. He wanted to look like a BIG guy!! (a stupid one at that!!)

Q. What does polite have to do with stupid?
A. NOTHING!!

Like many have already said, put the gun in a case. Nobody will look at you as a threat if you bring a gun into a gun shop inside a case. Even if he didn't have a case all he had to do was go to the counter and tell the salesman he has a Glock he wants to sell. Then tell him he has it in his belt.... No problem but the case is the best way.

I recently went to a gun shop because he had a large selection of used leather holsters. I wanted to find one for my 4" .357, a service type holster for use in the back country while fishing. I brought my Mag into the shop IN IT'S CASE. I went to the counter with the gun and told the clerk, "I brought that revolver I was telling you about in to see if I can find a holster for it." Nobody looked twice when I opened the case... (Found one BTW, nice full leather - black, slightly used.... $17)

I always approach a clerk first and tell him I have a pistol/rifle in my car that I'd like to bring into the store for them to look at.

i always go in without the gun and inform the shop guy of what im intending to bring in and why, and i ask him where he wants me to set it down.

i myself have seen things almost hit fans in gunshops all because of people who just dont think. i saw a guy, he was at a indoor range and he absentmindedly loaded up a magazine of a rental gun and stuck it in the gun, right at the counter. the guy behind the counter drew and ordered the guy to lay down the gun. the poor dumbass was shaking so bad he almost froze up and didnt do what he was told. i hate it when people do stupid dangerous stuff while they are standing next to me.

How to bring a weapon into a gun shop.

Revolvers: cylinder open and empty., fingers through the opening, wrapped around the top strap.

semi autos: slide locked back, magazine out of pistol.

Bolt action rifle: bolt open and back
Semi auto, bolt locked back
Lever action: lever down, so action is open
Pump action: slide back with action open

You want it to be obvious that the weapon is not in a condition to be fired. Good idea to have the weapon pointed at the ceiling or floor.

If anyone here is scared on folk's walking into a gunshop with firearms
in plain sight, may I suggest that you immediately seek another line of
work; cuz it happens everyday. Of course, we like too check all firearms
ourselves as we greet the customers; as we don't want anyone too be
exposed too conditions that might be dangerous to their health or safety.

When I go into the local gun shop every single person there is carrying a concealed loaded handgun. But we generally don't point them at each other.

I agree. At least carry the dang thing by the slide to it doesn't look like you are ready to shoot. A case would be better.

I think the manner by which the individual presented the weapon should not be discounted in the shop keeps reaction. Gun shops are not immune to being robbed. One gun shop in Connecticut was robbed of a number of firearms and the owners CCW gun under sort of similar circumstances if I remember the news story right.

Actually, I wittnessed a sitation similar to Armed Polaks once at a range/ gunstore. Guy came in off the range, gun holstered. He walked up to the counter and started to draw it. The shop keeps hand went into his pocket (he carries a Kel Tec P32 in a pocket holster) and he ordered the guy to stop. After deescalation, he explained to the guy that he can't discern threat from innocuous action under those type of circumstances, and that he would have shot. Turned out, the guys gun had been malfunctioning, and he wanted the shop keep to help fix it.

Not all guns are cased when I bring them in, but in trading or servicing, I bring them in with the actions open and held in such a manner that I can not shoot it. Long guns kept pointed up and hand guns down. Never had the staff pull one on me.

Customer: "Why does my gun have to be holstered or in a case when I walk in here?"

Clerk: "What would you do when a stranger walks through your door with a gun their hand?"

Customer: "Shoot him, uh, oh I get it..."

Very good, Apple, yes let's get to the important stuff.:D

armed, glad you are O.K. Stupidity and guns go together like El Tejon and sushi.

Never let your zeal for firearms get you shot, by yourself, others, gun shoppe clerks or the police. Here's what I do, I walk in, tell them I'm bringing in a firearm (in El Tejon's case I am usually dropping a gun off for the gunsmith:D), and then I bring it in. I do this even though I have been using the same dealers for years and years.

As you point out, the time for someone to go zero to stupid is the blink of an eye. Think first, then do.:)

the gun looks great... can't say how it shoots, it's a Xmass present, so I was allowed to buy it, touch it for 10 minutes, take 2 pics (for you THR members) and put it away under the xmass tree. well, actually in a safe, sort of. I'll go try it out after xmass and I'll let you all know how it feels :D

Unless you're in the business you probably wouldn't believe it but many times I have weapons come into the shop (I part time in on weekends) for repair, trade or sale, and when I open the action (the first thing I do) they're loaded and ready to fire. What's wrong with some people?
Think people, THINK!:banghead:
