Finally got my .32 cva in the mail and all cleaned up.

ETA: I hated the rear sight (which was loose anyways), so I took it off and added the fixed rear sight that came with my GPR kit. It looks much better now. A few minutes with a small file and it tapped into place perfectly.

A few pics of "Frankenhawken". A well abused .53 cal. Uberti Santa Fe Hawken repaired and returned to service. Split stock repaired internally with fiberglass and elk rawhide externally.

A steel plate was carefully hand fitted around the lock to repair the damage to the lock mortise.

Still puts right in there too.

I liked that you were able to repair and refurbish that Santa Fe Hawken, especially with the use of the elk rawhide covering. Makes it look very authentic and period correct.

Hey Jimster, nice rifle! Technically that is a breech-loader... I'd love to add you to the list, that means you should get a muzzleloading caplock! :D I should have specified that in my OP so I guess I'll put in the rule now!

Very cool Hawken Loosenock!! Love the period repairs.

Thanks for your comments bannockburn. They're much appreciated.

Here is a closer picture of the iron plate mounted over the lock mortise boss. The lock is very stoutly mounted, like a vault door. The screws holding the plate are flame blued. The rawhide lacing and edge wrapping is elk sinew and hide glue.

I had my doubts at times when I was repairing it. It was worth the all the work and shoots amazingly.

Nice "canoe gun". Looks very handy for a deer blind. I wonder what kind of velocities the short barrel gets over a full length one? Interesting! You've been added to the list!
So far I have only proven it to be suitable for killing junk dishwashers residing in sink holes, but it did poke through that 1970s sheet steel door so I give it good odds in the pine thicket where I pistol hunt.

Nice work with the iron plate support for the lock work. Just like a gunsmith would have probably done it way back when; well maybe with the help of the village blacksmith too!

Custom copy of the 1833 vintage Mariano Medina Hawken. If a nail is missing on the original, it's missing on this one too.

Fifty four Cal. belonged to a trapper who wound up building a trading post west of Loveland CO.. He trapped with
Bridger and Meek before settling down in CO.

I killed an Elk with it in the 80s.

Welcome aboard, Iggy! Amazing rifle. I love the swirl pattern ramrod and patch box, looks like a great Hawken!
