THR LEO's A Question.

My agency will issue an HK USP-40. But we're allowed personal sidearms too. I stay qualified on two 1911s and soon; a new XD45.

Vehicles are equiped with a Mossberg 500 12 ga, and an M-16.

Richland County SD - Glock 22
Lexington County SD - Sig 226 .40 or Glock 22 (you see both, they're making the transition from Sig to Glock)
Columbia PD - Sig 220 DAO with 12lb trigger - they did a good job ruining an otherwise decent gun
Dorchester County SD - Glock 22
USC PD - HK compact .357 Sig, variant 3, S&W 642 BUG (issued)
Irmo PD - Glock 22
SLED - choice of Glock 22 or 23

My department - Glock 22 issued, but we can carry any .40 caliber Glock as long as we qualify with it. No other guns allowed. It's against department policy to have ANY other firearms with you on duty, even though our department serves over ten thousand warrants per year. It would be nice to have a shotgun or AR available for raids, but that would just make too much sense

No issued weapons where I work, everything I carry I own:
Beretta M9 (primary)
Kel-tec P3AT (BUG)
Bushmaster C15M4
Mossberg 590A1
Kel-tec SUB-2000 (very handy when you need more range and accuracy than a pistol but haven't time to get to your rifle and shares mags with the Beretta)

I'm in NW AR, as well.
Fayetteville PD carries G35s, used to carry a Smith of some flavor.
Springdale Carries 17s on Patrol, 19 for CID, etc. Some are issued AR-15s. All get 870s.
Dept of Community Correction Probation/Parole officers carry G23s, IIRC
UofA PD carries 22Cs for patrol, 23Cs for the dicks. They can also carry personal weapons.
State bulls carry the 22.
IIRC Rogers PD officers are issued Glocks, but can carry personal weapons with approval.
Arkansas Department of Correction carries either .357 Smiths or G22s as well as 870s and Mini-14s. They also have a bunch of M16A2 rifles.

Yep, I know a cop or two.

Police around here (Southern Maryland) carry Beretta 92FSs as their sidearm and AR-15s in their squadcars. I can't tell you whether their ARs are auto or not, I was in the back seat at the time...
:uhoh:

The local Police have glock 22's. (.40 S&W)

The Sheriff's used to issue S&W 1911 (.45 ACP)
Sheriff's now issue Glock 22's and some have the compact .40's. Some Deputies still have the S&W 1911's.

I carry a Sig 226 in .40 with a DA/SA trigger with no safety.

I carry a Rem 870 12 gauge magnum in my vehicle.

We are not allowed to have a BUG according to our SOPs.

Our tac officers carry M4's/AR's and our sniper has a Rem 700

I believe that covers everything

Now, since there aren't a lot of LEOs on THR,

It seems to me that a good number of the boys in blue really aren't gunnies as much as they are guys that happen to carry a gun.

That is true.
But, I imagine the chances any given LEO is a gunnie to be higher than the chances your average Joe is one.

In the USA (Bureau of Justice stats), there are 2.5 officers per 1000 pop.
On THR, I've heard there are about 30,000 members - not sure if that's active or total?
I'm also fairly certain that there are more than 75 (2.5*30) LEOs on THR.

It's a very safe bet that officers are much better represented on THR than in the general population.

LEO weapons in my area...

The large county sheriff's office uses the Glock 21 .45acp. This has been standard issue since 2002, ;). A few old-timers still pack the Beretta 92-FS/M-9 9mmNATO, :D.
The metro PD where I live issues the SIG sauer P-226 9mmNATO. The sworn LEOs in the dept want a new .40 or .357sig but the upper mgmt said; *%$# no! They did settle and allow sworn LEOs to use a PODA .40S&W or .357sig model P-226. This to me is stupid, they had 9mm SIGs for over 16 years but they were to cheap to upgrade,.
The state troopers/highway patrol use Beretta 96 .40S&W pistols but that may change soon.
Most other small town LEOs/suburbs use the SIG sauer .40S&W or Glock pistols. :D

RS
PS: PODA- Private Owned, Department Aprroved :D

My buddy in the San Diego PD is issued some SIG in .40SW. When he visits LA I have only seen his personal Glock 22 when we go to the range.

He has mentioned someone carrying a Kimber in his dept.

VA Beach - Glocks, Rem 870s, AR15/M4 rifles

VA State police are, iirc, also the same with their weapons choices.

The local PD here (Collier County) provides an equipment stipend (about $3000 IIRC) for officers to put towards the purchase of a personal firearm. A great deal of them seem to carry Glocks, but quite a few also carry Beretta, HK, and Sig.

When I lived there, Tallahassee PD issued Sig Sauer P-series pistols (either P226 or P229, not sure which) in .40. Not sure if this is still the case.

(I'm not LEO)

West Bloomfield, Michigan Glock 9mm (17 and 19). I've seen snubby revolvers as BUGs, and I think I heard some may have Glock 26 as BUGs.

Gamo
with a proven record of shooting alleged innocent people it was felt by the PC's that this is safest
