Time to stock up on ammo?

Powder and ammo still good around here (Cabelas/Sportsman Warehouse) Primers are a different story, hit n miss by suppliers to stores,(Cabelas usually has something I can use/Sportmans never has does), even PV goes quick, wish suppliers would open the purse a little more for us reloaders.

I think bho will make a lot of executive orders as a lame duck to save hillary from the political fight with them. Plus it adds to one part of his legacy that he is disappointed in. I expect more from the BATFE poking sharp sticks in the eyes of gun owners. Ammo restrictions is one area I think they will focus on, specifically what armor piercing is defined as.[/QUOT
I don't see anything being done by Executive Order. The last Executive Action turned out to be more of a wash.

people on the sites have been talking themselves into a panic for months.
i see no way to avoid one.
as to gov action, i expect, at the very least a ''sin tax'' on ammo.
that said, i monitor online ammo prices daily. so far, it's stable.
Don't they teach civics in high school anymore? All tax bills must be originated in the House of Representatives. It is impossible to EO a tax on domestic goods.

I am very hesitant to post this question because I do not want to induce a panic (not that one post could do so; at least I hope not), but still, I am a bit curious. I was at my LGS this past weekend and the owner said that people are starting to pre-order "tactical" guns because they are afraid that come Nov. 9 .... you get the point.
My question is about ammo. So far, I am seeing no shortage of ammo at my local Wal-Marts, where I purchase. But I am wondering if the same panic-buying that ensued following Sandy Hook could occur again.
My question is NOT "what do you think," because none of us has a crystal ball, so opinions don't really count. My question is: Are you actually seeing or hearing of people "stocking up" on ammo in advance of a possible Hillary victory. In other words, is inventory holding up so far in your neck of the woods?
The reason I ask is that while I am not really short of ammo, there are a few items I might want to buy ahead of time if I think the shelves will get cleared on Nov. 9. I am not a hoarder and have no plans to be, but I also don't want to have to wait a year to buy some ammo in basic calibers.
Thanks

The only thing I use is small 9mm Luger pistol. I have 100 rounds of JHP ammo which is plenty. My only concern would be that you do not want to be like that guy from California who after his death stuck his family with disposing of FIVE or SIX TONS of ammo. Just think of situation those souls have found themselves in. What a horrible waste of money and storage space.

I was a little slow on the draw. I got a good supply of powder but PV backordered my primers. I found another source. I figure I am good until the midterm elections which will be a low point in the Clinton II administration.
I have adequate self defense ammo for ordinary crime but not enough for a prolonged firefight with the Forces of Evil.

Again I see no evidence of ammo shortages or increased demand. With .22lr being more reasonably available at ~$0.06 per round (meets my "reasonable" criteria fo the cheapest .22lr being 1/3-1/4 the price of the cheapest 9mm -- circa 2005 I was getting 9mm FMJ for $0.08/round and .22lr for $0.02-0.03/round) and without quantity limits its been worth a trip to the store to buy some so I've started shooting .22lr again, previously I'd been hoarding what I have left for my wife to shoot.

There was an ad in yesterdays paper, $18.95/325 round Federal bulk pack, drove in today and picked up 7 boxes, nobody batted and eye and there was no run on ammo which seemed very well stocked. I'd almost forgot how much fun it is to mow down the plate rack with my best Jerry Miculek imitation and .22lr :)

mboylan: Good points.

As for taxes, there might no longer be a GOP majority in the House, possibly the Senate.
My wife covered some topics in high school which I missed, because school districts assume that nobody moves from a city to another city during high school.

Anybody who waits more than two-three days (from now) to stock up on ammo must be unaware of the unpredictable changes after any Presidential election day.

I think I'm seeing some early returns. AIM Surplus, which normally has plenty of ammo, in their latest email ad no longer lists prices, telling you to check online for prices and availability. I did check and found they are completely out of 7.62x39, and down to one type of .223 ammo out of about 15 normal choices. No price increases though, they were always good about that. Still lots of 9mm at good prices.

This is admittedly a very small poll, but perhaps it's begun.

It is virtually a mathematical impossibility for the GOP to lose the House. The Senate is a tossup.

Relax. Just buy the ammo you really need.

Right now the shelves are full and there appears to be no panic buying, but that can all change
in an instant . The shelves will empty in just a day or two. You should have been buying over the last 8 years.

True, but the thinking paranoid would've been stockpiling ammo, little by little, since well before Y2K, unless he was in diapers back then .. :)

Even if nothing bad ever happens, ammo bought years or even decades ago and properly stored, is an investment.

Knowing knowledge level and intelligence of typical voter I would say those who shoot a lot should have at least EIGHT years worth of reserve.

Buy ammo you use anytime it is on sale. If your kids inherit it, so what, they can use it or sell it.

December 14, 2012 Sandy Hook happened. It only took a couple of days for every store in my area to sell out of 20 and 30 rounds magazine of any kind. A few days later most of the ammo was gone from store shelves. AR 15`s all but disappeared . The very next gun show I went to plain Jane Ar`s were selling for $2000 and the Colt`s were going for $3000 to $3500. The price for any 30 round magazine jumped to $60 or more.

A little talk can cause a big problem. The sky isn't falling yet , but you can see how easy and fast it can fall.

It never hurts to have a nice reserve of ammo. I'm not talking about thousands of rounds of various types of ammo, I'm talking about a few hundred rounds of ammo that you absolutely need (for me that's two types of pistol ammo and three types of rifle ammo, and the bulk of my reserve ammo is small caliber stuff for hunting like .17 and .22 variants).

Redwind: Glad to read that about the House, as I must have missed it in the news. Hope the Senate will have the power to block certain anti-American types from the Supreme Court.

Gradually stored about 11,000 rds. of 7.62x39 and approx. 2,500 of .223 for retirement next spring. Even if she is elected, things should cool off by next spring, provided there isn't another 'nasty' event.

I believe you are well covered in those 2 rounds. Congratulations. I'm envious. This is the very latest on the House.

“The race for the House is over: Republicans are going to keep it,” says Geoffrey Skelley, who tracks congressional math at the University of Virginia’s Center for Politics, in an interview. “I can give you a probability on that prediction: There is zero chance Democrats win it.”

Thank you ... this is what I tell my wife (who says I can't take it with me when I go) too -- our kids will either need it, or can sell it, and it's gonna be worth more to them by then than it is to us now.

Yawn. Just before the election in 2008, I bought my first AR and lots of ammo. This year I finally gave in and purchased an extra brick of subsonic 22LR in case the election goes nuts. So if that's a panic, we are in good shape.

Maybe not a panic for you or many of us here but there are others who panic easily. I believe that the .22 "panic" was caused more by speculators than actual shooters. True shooters would buy enough to get them by for X years but the speculators bought all they could, whenever they could, to profit from desperate shooters who didn't prepare ahead of time or who didn't know better since they were new to the game.

Here is what I think:
1. Ammo doesn't go bad.
2. Ammo is cheaper now than it has been in a long time.
3. Ammo is more available now that it has been in a long time.
4. We don't know what is about to happen on Tuesday. If Hillary wins, you can expect some type of panic. If Trump wins, we don't know how he will govern.

Bottom line is, it is still the perfect time to stock up. If Hillary wins, expect the shelves to be empty by Wednesday afternoon.

I bought about 2500-3000 ASSORTED 9MM, 45, 223, 380. This just to top off my 2nd ammo box, now I will fill the third with about another 1000 rounds, My goal is 1000 foe each weapon and a bit more for my 9mm piatols. I have about a half dozen pistols in 9&45, so I really need more than what I have, but I will probablly pick up another 1000 or more this week. My AR needs about 500 more, and the 380 realy is fine with 2-300 rounds, as I don't really carry it. But emergencys occur. Also my 9's I ort of lump together since I am the only shooter. But I answered a post last nigh on another forum, "second amendment insider" about HRC's proposal to license and tax ammo in CA. So I now may step it up to 6 ammo crates instead of 3. Can't hurt, and I have the cash right now to do it. I am waiting to see if another AR pistol is in my near future as of tuesday mid day.
It's possible the FBI may step in before the election is over on Tuesday and announce charges being levied against HRC and members of her staff. This after all is a freak show.

It's always time to stock up on ammo. It has an extremely long shelf life and will never be cheaper than it is today.
That's a good point if you need to stock up. There is also a consideration for available funds.
