Time to stock up on ammo?

The time to stock up started years ago. I'm not saying that everyone needs to have 20k rounds of every possible caliber, but: (1) with proper storage, ammo doesn't go bad; and (2) prices don't go down over the long run.

You be correct. You don't wait until the day before a presidential election to make that decision.

Ammunition will never be cheaper than today when compared to tomorrow.
Ask anyone that was buying 380ACP fifteen years ago. At the pricing being charged each round should have had a velvet lined presentation box. Some twenty years ago there was a primer shortage.
The war on terror was blamed for the shortage of 7.62x39. We all know that the US government was getting all the economy brand of that and sending it to the Afghanis and Iraqis. Green tip 5.56x45 disappeared for a few months due to the DoJ wanting it labeled as 'Cop Killer' pistol ammo on account of all those AR-15 pistols being made.
Friends there is never a better time to take inventory and replenish needed supplies. Do not wait until the hurricane is on its way to your home, in a manner of speaking of course.

Back in 03 when I got my first .380acp I was paying $9.99 for UMC(on sale) in 09 I'm ashamed to admit I paid $24.99 for the same UMC since then I've been patiently waiting for that $9.99 price to come back. Prices have come down a bit but not back to "the good old days" of 03 so when I can get American made .380acp for $15.00 or less I buy and feel blessed for it.

It doesn't seem that long ago that 7.62x39 and 223 were $2.99/20, and 200 round battlepacks of 7.62 NATO were $20. A box of 9mm was $5.99.

I won't hardly buy commercial ammo anymore. I buy reloading supplies by the thousand, and powder in 8lb jugs.

IMO, if you haven't stocked and HRC wins it's already too late. I think the price will go through the roof and shelves will be bare again and worse than with Obama. At least Obama didn't campaign on a gun control agenda. If Trump wins you will just have stocked a bunch of ammo you won't have to buy later.

I'll be at the Tulsa Gun Show this weekend, which is always a good barometer of the impact of recent politics. I'll post my impressions next week. Regardless of the outcome, the impact will be immense.

Sportsman's Guide is all out, at this point, of brass 7.62x39 ammo, unless you want to buy the $20+ per box stuff. The Fiocci, PPU, S&B, Geco, etc. is all gone.

Plenty of various Russian brands left, very reasonably priced, with a free shipping promotion going on. Good time to buy if you need some.

If you have not done this before it might be hard to start depending on what happens after today.
It is hard to say as we might see same reactions than when Obama took office.
But it is never too late to start. One one buys bulk one can save big time anyway.

They are also sending out emails to buy ammo NOW with free shipping.

I am comfortable with the reloading supplies I have. Actually I mean that I have bulging shelves and no more room for any more heavy stuff. If I get more stuff I will have to move to a bigger place for all my stuff. George Carlin was right.

Days like these, I wish there was a gun/ammo futures market, simply so I could watch the chaos unfold in real time over a glass of beer...

Red Wind:
Many of you might be much younger than 61, and therefore time could be on your side to gradually store what you need.

This afternoon The Amm. Store (in OH) sold 7.62x39 for .23/round.
The Ammo Anxiety Factor might be somewhat clear in two more hours?

What Panik? Hillary is Gone----------------------------------
Lots of people were hoping to sell off surpluses of ARs etc.

Red Wind is older than 61. But feels like a teenager this morning! :D Woo Hoo!

My AR is getting some more .223 today in celebration.

I checked my ammo stores a couple of days ago. I was low on hog hunting ammo. I usually order 200 rounds at a time and splurged and purchased 400 rounds on the eve of the election. The price was quite good. I figured I would order some more if Trump lost. I checked back this morning. Prices are unchanged. I may just have to order another case, not out of fear, but out of celebration.

NOW is a great time to stock up, or start to. We must not become complacent. An army is most vulnerable after a victory.

I suspect the panic buyers won't be in the market so much, but the great ammo shortage of the last decade or so has not been alleviated. there are a lot of new shooters out there, and a lot of old shooters doing more shooting that eats away at even increased supplies of ammo. hopefully president trump will do something about this urgent problem like allowing more imports of ammo, and hopefully even old military arms like M1 garands and carbines that were blocked by obama.

My excuse is that my wife has taken such a huge interest in shooting now (her AR15 and various revolvers/pistols) that I MUST keep the inventory up. That means for every 50 rounds sent down range I buy 100 (with her total support)!

DougW - you are a lucky guy. I wish my wife would enjoy shooting as much as I do. Would make buy guns and reloading supplies a lot easier. I have enough to last the next 2 lows in supplies. I am just replacing what I am shooting.

is there any way to track how much ammo is sold?
i will not buy during the coming year. my supply has exceeded my storage capacities.
i'm curious how many people are in my position.

I was in this position just before my retirement about 4 years ago. Proved to be one of my better "investments". :)

If prices retreat and my health holds up, I'll replace most of what we've shot up since then, .22lr is the lowest in terms of number on hand and how much of it we'd like to be shooting -- we've cut way back on shooting .22lr since Sandy Hook.
