Today I enjoyed the outdoors. I chose to carry......

I like the looks of that lake. Would love to get my Kayak on that one. Beautiful.
It is by far one of the best kayaking bodies of water in this state. Deep, incredibly clear glacial lake.

A few years back, a hiker encountered a cranky mountain goat up on Hurricane Ridge. The hiker was killed by the mountain goat.
So, to answer the question, "What gun for mountain goats?" A .45 ACP pistol, 10+1 of course.

That's what Rock Lake Red and I like. Deep, clear, cold, and unspoiled shoreline.
That's a looonng kayak. I like a sit-inside touring kayak, but the princess (below) likes being on the water and kayaking, she rides up front on one of the recreational kayaks (when she barks, I believe she's saying, "I'm King of the World!" We were out in the Sound one day and she decided to go overboard and swim after some ducks. Puget Sound in the springtime can be very cold.

Beautiful country

When did GB get a Cabela's? I left the area in 2009 and was not aware they had one.
I already have a 1911 in 10mm. Ruger SR1911. Not much trigger time, yet
More like double time😁
I think it opened in 2013. If you haven't been to GB lately it is worth stopping in the Stadium District. They have done a nice job improving the area and Stadium. The last game I went to was Thanksgiving 2015 when they retired Brett's jersey. GB lost to the Bears ☹️. Bart was there which made it fun 3 Super Bowl QBs on the field at the same time👍
The gun room at Cabela's had a bunch of old hunting rifles. Fun to look at 🙂.

Beautiful dawg, she might like a small canoe. Used to have a Yorkshire that loved to swim, he would often jump off the kayak and into the water. Couldn't keep him in the forward hatch for long. ! He'd even pretend to fall off the deck/top and into the water. But he would stay in a canoe.

You guys and your pistols! I'll take a revolver thank you. :) But that, is another debate! :)

There is no debate in this thread about what you carry! Carry what you want! Enjoy the outdoors. Post fun pictures of beautiful places!!!!

As far as revolver or pistols I like them both!! 38 or 357 in my pocket and 10mm in a holster. Or 9mm in my pocket and 44mag in the holster 😁

Not sure when the sale on Danners is ending at Cabela's. The Green Bay store was out of my size 14...☹️
They were like $140. They are having a trade in sale. Give them a old pair of boots and they give you an additional discount on a new pair!

Just be careful if you end up by the gun counter! You may just need to add a 1911 in 10mmmmmmmm. 🤣

THR enablers are working overtime this week
Was in Cabela's this morning. Looked at and held a Kimber Custom II GFO in 10mm. It was priced right but I exercised control and left it.
Looked at more hikers but nothing grabbed my eye.
Not much outdoor time the past couple of days. 7-1/2" of rain in a couple hours before daylight yesterday morning and last night tornadoes and straight line winds. A lot have flooded basements and now no power. I did have my Glock 30 on when taking these photos. The ones looking down were taken out of a second story room in the house IMG_20230824_070105744.jpg IMG_20230824_083215330_HDR.jpg IMG_20230824_070422491.jpg IMG_20230824_070115249.jpg IMG_20230824_070110101.jpg IMG_20230824_070130170.jpg

@Southerner up North I hope you and friends are doing well through this weather event!
I'm sorry that I didn't reach out sooner. I heard that there was bad weather going through your area.
I will have to look at the Kimber you mentioned online. I sold my last 1911 years ago. I always thought I would buy a 45acp 1911 again....
Thank you for the thoughts my friend we are doing ok and a lot better than people in other areas. Once storm drain covered were cleared of debris the water drained quickly. Compared to the hurricanes I lived through growing up, this was easy.
The grip on the Kimber is thinner than that on the SR. The SR is not much thinner than the 20. Now that I have 1911's I doubt I will be without one.

I've decided to do hikes instead of the treadmill at the gym and I've lost 4 lb since I started doing it.

The Obligatory gun porn. That's my old Camelback rally pack. And the Tilley which probably needs to be washed. Brown book is my Bible. I was reading Daniel 7 today

Ute Valley Park is pretty close to where I live. So that's where I end up most of the time.

This video is taken from pretty close to where I park my car I walked through the meadow down to the edge of that Ridge then I walk up on top of the ridge and walk along the top back to about a mile behind where I was at when I took that picture and then I come down the ridge and walk back through the meadow.

This is the East end of the ridge. This won't mean anything to anybody but me but I walked around that East Edge

And I was looking at that building in the trees which was an electrical substation I used to have to go check in the middle of the night. It was a pretty good place to hide out at night. 20220108_121235.jpg
I'm pretty sure I took this picture sitting outside that substation one morning waiting for a time to be time to go back to the office. 20230825_104228.jpg
That's not as much of a drop as it looks like. 20230825_113303.jpg

Looks like more than a day! Unless that's a puffy coat and not a sleeping bag?
I don't do Puffy Coats. That's a Patrol Sleeping Bag from the Army's "Modular Sleep System". It's supposed to be effective down to 30°F.

This is going to be a long story.

I enjoy hiking in the mountains but I mostly do it for exercise. My Ruck weighs approximately 30 lb with water. I make it a rule not to get off pavement unless I am ready to spend the night out there but I'm mostly carrying that Ruck for the extra weight.

I decided to get serious about putting together a Get Home Bag during the lockdowns. I brought it up on another forum and one of the participants talked about her friend of his who had a rucksack and an LBE and plate carriers and whatever they call the civilian version of an M14 and that was his "Get Home Bag".

According to the other Poster the problem was that his friend was at least 50 lb overweight and the guy telling the story doubted that he could get that rig from the trunk of his car to the end of the parking lot.

Long story short, I took that to heart and when I put my Get Home Bag together I started putting it on and going up and hiking in the mountains.

I did 11 and a half miles today with an 1800 FT elevation gain in six and a half hours.

I did the Daniels Pass Trail Loop.
I'm still picking out the pictures I want to post. When I get them done I'll put them up there

Dang, don't know how you breathe at that elevation!!! At sea level you can probably hold your breath for an hour. Anyhow, indeed, even when I'm hiking on just the State Land, I always carry the same pack and gear I would up North in the mountains. Sometimes I'll carry the same, even a rifle, taking the dawg on the two or four mile "loop" of my rural neighborhood. Yes, one can walk down the road here with a rifle and no one cares. I have seen "others" doing the same. There are "others" "out there"!! So it makes sense to carry one's gear, or at least a pack of the same weight on a serious hike, when doing a more casual hike.

I also have a very heavy "get home" pack, but I pack it so that I can off load much of the gear, should I need lighter weight, instead of that gear. Make sense? You never know what the situation will be, but it's good to be initially prepared for "everything" or anything. But after assessing the "situation", there will be things one can dump to lighten the load. So maybe that friend wasn't so dumb if he was willing to dump gear, that was not going to be needed, according to what was going on. ? If it turns out you only have ten miles to get home, but you're packing four MRE's, (I have four in my "get Home" bag) then just toss a couple, or give them to someone less prepared. I have other stuff "just in case", but I'm not committed to taking it with me no matter what. But good to have initially, in case what matters. Or something like that.
