Today I enjoyed the outdoors. I chose to carry......

The Browning BDM is getting to go WalkAbout in a Kramer IWB #2 horsehide holster. I have to admit I do like Kramer holsters even though it takes forever to get one made.

Right now it has one of the ten round magazines inserted. I hope to get to the range today or tomorrow and will take two tens and two 15s.
when I buy a gun that I know I'm going to be carrying the first thing I do is order a Kramer holster for it.

Very nice pairing and one I can safely believe you don't see every day!

Kudos to you for your unique choice of handgun and for the selection of the Kramer holster to go with it!

Well done sir!
Thanks. I honestly believe the Browning BDM is the absolute greatest pistol design that was a total sales failure from day one. Even slimmer than the HP or 1911 and 15 rounds of 9mm Luger and natural pointer and utterly reliable and ... mostly forgotten. I was lucky enough to be one of the few folk that actually bought one back in 1996 IIRC. Every range trip and WalkAbout it's had since then has been memorable.

Still in the avoid the outdoors today part of the year but hints of possible enjoy the outdoors on the horizon. Was still over 100F at 6 pm last night. But today I'll carry the little Walther PPS in an Aker IWB holster.

I've got cabin fever from the heat. On Tuesday morning temp was 63 so I checked it out. Total waste of time. Nobody told the bugs. Predictions here are no high temps below 90 until 3rd week of September. Probably have some nice temps about 3rd week of October - the beginning of the best time of the year.

I hope to make it out hiking this weekend or early next week. The temperatures in Wisconsin are going to be in the 90°s 🥵

@Southerner up North asked about hiking boots. I just ordered a pair of boots that were on sale from REI for $45. I thought some of you may be interested. Retail price is $150.
The handgun is a XDM compact in 10mm. It will be joining me on the trail soon. It only has 50 rounds of FMJ'S through it. I would like to run another couple hundred rounds through it before I carry it.

My friend I hope you make it out to the trails.
The shoes look comfortable. Hopefully they are sturdy and hold up.
You have jumped feet first into the 10mm creek. What are your initial impressions of the XDM?

I order a crossbreed supertuck. I have several and all serve me well. Crossbreed has super customer service as well

Awesome country

1. REI does not make junk. They're a little proud of their stuff but it isn't junk.

John Wesley Hardin's father was a Methodist circuit rider. Supposedly he rode his circuit with his Bible in one saddle bag and his Pistol in the other.

Well I am neither a Methodist, a Circuit Rider nor a Hardin, I think that's a good idea.

How's the recoil? I'm getting more and more sensitive but I like the caliber.

Yesterday I saw a cougar dive into the woods along my 1/4 mile driveway in Central Wisconsin so I decided my M&P 40 would be a good choice with 14 rounds of 180gr FMJs.

I think the REI boots should be ok. I will make note in the thread how I like them.

I do have the 10mm bug. The XDM-Elite 10mm compact is very close to my XDM compact 45acp. The sights are a different style and it has an ambidextrous slide release.

I will try to post more on the recoil after I put some stout loads through the gun.
I only ran one box of 180 FMJ'S rated at 1030. That is 40s&w velocity.

I have some Underwood 180 FMJ'S rated 1250 range loads. And I just ordered a few more hotter loads for Testing/Carry

I think that it will be nice to have the two different 10mm's. The Glock 20 with the red dot. And the XDM that is really close in size to a Glock 19.
Handgun Hero only has the XDM-Elite in 9mm for comparison. I think the 10mm and 45acp are a little thicker.

So I'm asking this question here because it's specific to the Outdoors.

How do you carry your handgun in the rain? Specifically, if you're out in the backcountry and it starts raining and you have to put on a rain suit how do you deal with that with a belt gun?

Do you just have double extra large rain pants that go over your belt?

Do you have a clip on holster that you take off or you hang over the rain pants?

Do you just embrace the suck and get wet?

My rain pants just slip over what I am wearing. I pocket carry much of the time. So getting to my handgun can be made more difficult with the rain pants. I will move my hand gun to my rain coat pocket to keep access.
With an OWB holster I will just cover it with the rain coat.

Anyway you look at it is a pain to hike in the rain ☔
