Myself and a couple buddies, one of which is a member here, are going to do a top shot out in the boonies. None of us are experts (unless they're sandbagging) so it should be fun and maybe a close one. Here's what we have so far as far as events, any suggestions would be appreciated.

Headliner: Distance @ 50 yards, 100 yards, 150 yards, 200 yards, 250 yards, 300 yards

Carbine Challenge: 16” barrel AR shooting a target @ 100 yards, 10 rounds, unlimited time, iron sights or red dot.

AR quick shot: Fire a full 30 round magazine at a target 25yards away in under 20 seconds, iron sights.

Scoped freehand: Bolt action rifle, 5 rounds @ a 50 yard target, must be standing, no resting the gun on anything other than your bearpaws

Active Pistol: Moving from one point to another, 14 rounds to a 10 yard target. No barely walking, time limit??

Static Speed Pistol: 10 rounds in 5 seconds @ 5 yards.

Static Pistol: Semi auto 5 rounds at 15 yards, unlimited time.

If you're aspiring to be the Tv show, you might want to bring along a 92F, an atlatl, and a blow gun.

Lord no, drama's not my thing, nor their's now that I think about it, haha. This will just be a loose, friendly competition so I just want some ideas for events. I'd say something with bows, but we don't have any that I know of. We all have pistols, shotguns, ARs, and bolt actions. What's an atlatl? I'll look it up, but I doubt I'm the only one that doesn't know.

Well one of you can join the coast guard, the other can join the marines............. then you can argue about how it was done better in your branch of the service to create drama. - JK

However, in all seriousness, Top shot is about using unfamiliar weapons. Go to your local pawn shop and find a cheap new gun to compete with (.22, Mosin, Milsurp du jour) or at least switch with your friends. If you use your own guns, I would start the competition straight from the bags - No shots to check zero or realign sights.

Headliner: Distance @ 50 yards, 100 yards, 150 yards, 200 yards, 250 yards, 300 yards That's more of who has the right sight settings than marksmanship. You would need a day just to zero in unless you have done that previously, otherwise just luck unless shots are scored one at a time and sight corrections are applied.

Carbine Challenge: 16” barrel AR shooting a target @ 100 yards, 10 rounds, unlimited time, iron sights or red dot. Use the MR-31 target, not that easy to get a very high score.

AR quick shot: Fire a full 30 round magazine at a target 25yards away in under 20 seconds, iron sights. Too easy, you should be able to shoot 100 points on just about any target.

Scoped freehand: Bolt action rifle, 5 rounds @ a 50 yard target, must be standing, no resting the gun on anything other than your bearpaws An average shot could do well.

Active Pistol: Moving from one point to another, 14 rounds to a 10 yard target. No barely walking, time limit?? Boring........

Static Speed Pistol: 10 rounds in 5 seconds @ 5 yards. Too easy.

Static Pistol: Semi auto 5 rounds at 15 yards, unlimited time. Pretty easy.

If it was me I'd just enter a highpower match, a bullseye pistol match and a couple of rounds of skeet. The top shots will show pretty fast.

Please note none of us are actual top shots, besides maybe the guy who's also on here. I know these will test me and if I get 100 out of 100, we'll make them harder next time. As for the sighting in, that's a good point, but we'll have a whole weekend, so that shouldn't be an issue. I will toss the new weapon idea out there... maybe something we all pitch in on and whoever does best overall takes it home? As for the AR target at 100 yards, we will probably be using cheap targets printed on 8.5 x 11". Forgot to add shooting an egg or water balloon first at some given yardage, so we'll have accuracy and speed.

Wow, bull. Consider your cheerios officially soiled. Haha. Sounds like a fun afternoon IMHO.

No worries Speksoftly, it will be. Some of us aren't superstar shooters so "easy" tasks don't bore me at all :)

Gallon milk jugs filled w/water ,off hand at 200,egg at 300 off bench,22 at pop cans off hand at 100, you can play it how ever.At least no expert is going to be loading the flintlock for you, they did'nt show load prep,ie clean vent, amount of priming powder and amount or position of priming powder.Recurve or long bow, compound with weights doable by all there. This could be a lot of fun,Tape it.

You'd be amazed how many of us aren't "superstar shooters" despite what the keyboard badasses will tell you. Don't forget to get it all on video and get it up on youtube!

egg at 300 off bench

Been there done that...so much fun to watch the eggs explode!

TO truly make this work. You have to find the biggest d-bag of the group and have him call people "Ratfink"

otherwise its just no realistic

hahaha

What?... you mean you can't hit a soup can sitting in the leaves at 200 yards with a bone-stock Mini-14?

Heck,... I could do that shooting offhand, from my left shoulder, thirty minutes before sunrise.

Shooting towards the east...

On a windy day...

Uphill...

In bunny-slippers.

Make sure you all say nasty things behind eachothers back and then plot to vote one or another of them off so they cannot be part of your mockumentary next time.

I just realized I should not have called this TopShot at all, haha. What type of revolver challenges do y'all suggest? I really like the reactive target ideas, will definitely impliment them. We have until the first cold front of fall to plan, so we're just letting ideas flow for now. As for the camera work, if I don't scare off the misses before then, I don't think she'll mind as long as she's warm... I just thought, I have a friend with a clay thrower, best of 25...

I like Nutnfacny's courses, but this is just a few guys going back to where I grew up, and there are cows that need the pastureland :). Trust me, I want some desert land BAD.
