Training at academies -- pickup your brass?

So are you saying you are always the last guy in your squad to shoot? So you always get to watch all the other shooters shoot the stage and you never have to go first? I must be misunderstanding something...
When I first started, yes, it was like that. This season, I'm shooting 2 guns, one a plastic 9mm and the other my revolver. This season, I'm always the first or second shooter, and I shoot the 9mm with aluminum cased ammo so I don't have to pick up the brass. Then I shoot the revolver as the last shooter, so I can pick up all the brass without holding up the works.

However...

You can't have your cake and eat it, too. You want me to shoot first? You think I'm gaining some sort of competitive advantage by shooting last? (I'm currently 63rd with the 9mm and 65th with the revolver...out of 65 shooters.) Then that's certainly an understandable position for you to take, but you're going to have to shut up and wait for me to pick up my brass before you shoot. I do what I can to be considerate of others, but I'm not leaving brass on the ground every week. If you say it has to be like that, then I don't need to compete that badly.

Well...do what ya gotta do. As long as it doesn't interfere with the flow of the match and as long as your squad is happy with your contributions to stage management then great.

What kind of match are you shooting? I've never shot a USPSA/IDPA match where a shooter could shoot two guns in the same match. That is a new one on me. I see it in steel challenge all the time.

It's not a "sanctioned" match; it's a club-level kind of match that uses mostly USPSA rules and equipment.
