Tulsa Gun Show

I was there both Saturday and Sunday. I was working the Friends of the NRA booth, which was right next to where Wayne was signing books. The A/C problems is that someone with little sense took the old units off of the building a month and half or so ago and have yet to put the new ones up. The new ones were out in the parking lot taking up space. I went a looked around for a few minutes on my way out on Sunday. Didn't have any money to spend so I didn't look to much. Hopefully I won't have drill on that weekend in October and also have money to spend.

Then we (me, Chris and sm) walked right by you Saturday morning. I thought I should stop and make a small donation, since I'm on the FNRA committee for Pueblo, but I was trying to keep up with the other guys.

I stood next to the 4wheeler from about 11:55-12:15 waiting on Larry and the rest of the group.

Well...

I forgot to wear the BA/UU/R button.

Said button has a new owner now. A real cutie too and younger than I :D

*ahem*

I do not have a cell phone, still the cell phones were not always getting calls thru, Chris's would ring, then drop call. He was not happy. A page was $5 , granted by the time I figured out where this was done and the cost, the time had passed. *sigh*

What I propose in the future is meeting at a concession stand pre-determined , say on the West side, better yet inside entrance. I also suggest we PM with a button or somesuch.

I used to do this at various Market I attended, we did not advertise on the Internet for security reasons, [ okay granted back in the old day, no computers much less internet] still a small pre-arranged something and code, one year it was a green bic ink pen and asking if the Rusty Pelican was a good place to eat. [I know sounds dumb, still security for the type of market I attended and yes there was a restaurant by that name in Dallas, you should of heard the correct reply *grin*]

Again this year at Tulsa I was asked if I was "so and so" from ____Estate buyers...."Excuse me, I have noticed you handling and drooling over shotguns and wondering if you might be____"

"No, just a normal guy that has drooling spells when around some shotguns, rifles 1911s and Old S&Ws is all. "

I really think we need a button that says "Norm" - I would get a kick out of other folks reactions seeing "Norm" on folks and hearing "Norm" being yelled at the gun shows....

I know - I am bad, but I am me. :D

NORM!

I had a similar problem with my cell. I did notice, however, people communicating with walky talkys. Teamwork.

For example, one guy was selling his personal collection at great prices. He's 84 years old with disabled shoulders. (I felt sorry for him. He had good stuff.)

Anyway, by the time I got to him (about 1/4 way through) at around 11:00 am, half his stuff had already been sold. Judging from what he had left, the stuff that sold must have been primo.

But if I had a team of about four people with walky talkys and who knew what to look for, we could have checked out the old guy's collection.

Walky Talkies

Yes I have noticed teams out on the floor. I even got to talk to someone back at the exhibitors booth last year. :p

I know a two bbl SX1 Trap/ Skeet set when I see one, so the guy hands me the Motorola and I tell the money guy what it was. *shrug* I was there, Larry was still running up the aisle to keep up....:D

Now in my former business these walky talkies not a good idea, still used but codewords and passwords with the armed security , body guards we had. See the BGs used radios to listen in to whom drove what, where parked, where staying...and hit the vendors, or since we and them were targets for kidnapping for what we had...so we had to be smarter than the BGs. I have listened to these conversations and - scary. So I changed up some of my security routines.

Teams of friends and also Teams of buyers. I was told as was Larry, that some of these vendors only hit certain shows like Tulsa, they do not mess with other shows, All through the interim - for instance from now until Oct Show in Tulsa, business will be conducted. They have folks looking to fill collections, and so forth. A lot of business is not inside the show itself, just they all meet at Tulsa for instance.

I used to meet in neighboring towns before the actual show, conduct business, then hit the show in my old work.

Yes we can come up with better communications, I still suggest we do the details and nitty gritty via PM , email and landline.

Larry and the rest of the party I was with can share , not only was I looking for BATF, [it is a game we play] I was also looking for folks watching for folks as marks [casing the joint for easy prey once outside] I know all too well about that aspect of life.

Mr. BATF guy in the overalls and orange shirt, I made you halfway down the aisle. At least the lady BATF agent with the blue polo shirt was "discreet" , now everyone knows why I broke away "be right back" and had to hit the book ailse real fast..."ma'am since you are closer , would you be so kind to hand me that book?"
Reach, shirt comes up, I see, for sure " thank you ma'am. :)

I came back to everyone kinda smug .

Keeps one sharp on awareness, strategy and tactics...it is fun.
