Tumbling cast balls

Good find Ginormous. One for every size from .22 on up.... :D

Oldnamvet, if you're sure the ball won't rotate as it's rammed down the barrel and seated other than axially that would do the trick. I haven't loaded and shot anything with a patch and ball yet so I have no idea on how it would work out.

It's certainly an easy enough test. Put a big long target sheet at a good range with a big dot near the top. Aim directly for the dot with no distance compensation, or set the sight for something like 25 yards and see where a few shots with and without tend to group. If this trick works the ringed balls should group a little higher on the target than the regular balls.

Next trick would be to reshape the pick end of a welder's chipping hammer to a shape roughly like a 1/8 to 5/32 inch ball bearing and dimple a few balls fairly deeply similar to a golf ball. A wood "socket" would hold the balls during this abuse. Then load and shoot the same test to see if golf ball dimples would do the trick. Keep in mind that these would need to be evenly dimpled but not deformed. Too few dimples may not produce the desired result but too many would deform the ball too much. Ideally the dimples should just about all touch each other in an even pattern.
