That's what I'd do.
Years ago, I was enrolled in graduate school at Fort Benning, GA. The Army had a contract with Georgia State University to establish an adjunct campus on post. The classes were held after hours in the military classrooms.
One night I was on duty as Officer of the Day -- a 24 hour job, requiring me to be armed at all times. I had a class, so I told the Field Officer of the Day I'd be in class just down the hall.
I walked into the classroom and the professor said, "Is that gun loaded?!?"
"Of course! Only a fool would carry an empty gun."
