What do you think is the most underrated pistol????For me it is the Taurus PT99.....I have an older one and it's flawless...I call it the poor man's Baretta, but it is as reliable as any Baretta I've seen.....accurate,reliable,good trigger and you can go cocked and locked.....I bought mine used for like$300.........what is your entry?????

To be expected since they are made with Beretta equipment.

... what is your entry?????
BERSA 380s- excellent reliability & accuracy w/ excellent trigger.

The CZs used to be underrated but people are comming around now. My vote for both most under-rated and over rated guns go for a tie between the 1911 pattern guns and Glocks.

They both have people way out in the fringes of either side. I myself like them both and am more than happy to admit each has their shortcomings and strong points. The most outspoken people seem to either lothe or love their chosen.

FN-FortyNine. Paid 300 bucks for it brand new. Superb quality and craftsmanship. Excellent ergonomics and super accurate.

Lots of people have been scared off, because of its long and heavy trigger pull. But it's an awesome gun!!!

Out in the real world outside THR, CZs are still very much under-rated (not to say barely heard of in the first place).

Sean, if that were the case, why are the prices climbing so steadily? I've seen the price for a CZ 75B go up about a $100 since I've been interested in them.

I think they actually are starting to get their due.

Ruger P-Series. And if not for Springfield reintroducing them as the XD series, I would have said the HS2000.

Not on THIS board - -

- - nor amongst those "in the know," but the Makarov pistols are really under rated by many. I've heard several guys with more money than firearms savvy talk about those junk guns. The Mak is a lot of pistol for the money.

I too was going to say the BERSA is underrated, but then I started thinking (yeah, yeah...I DO think once in a while); If 95% of the people talk about a product in a positive manner, is it still underrated?

It's definately still one of the best values out there, but I think it's earned its mark now, and to say it is underrated.....well I think it's rated just right.

I still agree that the CZ's have some more kudos coming their way.

On the street (outside of a board like this with a lot of knowledgable people):

Makarov
Ruger P Series.
Bersa Thunder Series.
Witness.
CZ Series.
Springfield XD Series.
Smith 3rd Generation.

Just my thoughts.

Hey Sean, I suppose that's true. I live in the same city as the importer so they get good press around here and everyone stocks them. The closest store even has a CZ-75B Tactical limited edition with the OD frame and the Kershaw knife AND a CZ-75 Champion in 40.

Among active shooters, I would have to say the Ruger P-Series. The Rugers seem to be very popular with the casual shooter or gun owner because they are inexpensive. I personally had no interest in them at all for years, but received one in lieu of money owed to me and gave it a try. The more I shot it, the better I liked it. It certainly isn't one of my faviorite guns in the safe, mainly because of the caliber, but I think it is a very good gun and a great bargin.

Around here, CZs are very seldom heard from and I think they are terrific guns. I actually heard a local cop basically refer to them as junk, but was quickly corrected by a true gun guru.

I am sure that most of the general public considers the Makarov to be a POS. It isn't well known, it isn't expensive................... Those who have shot one know better.

Witness.
For $337.00 (in Wonder Finish) I didn't expect much of a .45 but it became my favorite hangun.
Quality can be spotty.

Hello.

I'd say, as have others, that CZ pistols as well as Makarovs are underrated. I've had mixed luck with the Tanfoglio (Witness) pistols, but have shot some that were exceptionally accurate. I will add Bersa to the list with the proviso that I've not yet owned mine long enough nor shot it enough to say for sure how its long-term durability will be. I'm positive that it will be fine for most buyers of .380 pistols, but cannot give a blanket endorsement until I've got another thousand or so rounds through mine. I think that STAR pistols are also very good little shooters, but do strongly suggest that with models predating the Firestar series, a very limited amount of +P be used in them. With standard pressure rounds, they just shoot and shoot and shoot in my opinion.

Best.
