Underrated pistols.....

the first two posts were the taurus PT92 and the Bersa Thunder. Those just happen to be the two handguns i own...oh, yeah, i just bought an HK USP, but that's by no means underrated.

CZ's
Mak's
Ruger P's
Browning BDA-380
CZ-52
SigPro's
Bulgarian Arcus line

My safe is full of Autoloaders that are outside of the mainstream (Sig P'sl, H&K, Beretta, 1911 family, BHP family, etc.). I might add Glock to that list as one poster mentioned. Sure, Glock has a rabid following and a lot of LE business, but I've found my two (both bought used) to be terrific on their own merits...and that's without drinking any kool-aid;).

I might add, that a good definition of underrated (at least the perception thereof) is materially influenced by whether the model in question is widely available at local shops, or if it has to be purchased long distance to be acquired.

Many of these models are very well liked by those who have heard of them, but within my list, and adding many others posted above, the name recognition just isn't there. In many ways it's not a lack of respect leading to a "lower rating", but rather a lack of awareness.

"CZ Series."

Only the metal-frame ones.

The polymer-frame CZ-100 series is 100% junk.
There are no metal rails in the frame, awful trigger, no finish inside the slide.

The only CZ I hate.

re: CZ100 Series

Actually, the CZ110 DA/SA is fairly popular among those that can get them.

Over at the CZ Forum, some innovative ideas have been put into play to address the CZ100 trigger by doing some traditional polishing and/or adding home made trigger stops to shorten the travel...others indicate that after several hundred rounds the trigger improves (or the shooter has adapted).

The CZ100 in 40S&W is widely acknowledged as undersprung...as I understand it, a CZ Compact spring in the 18-20lb range has provided good results for some.

The CZ100 series is one of those hit or miss pieces...loved by some, loathed by others...

Best Wishes,

I don't think anyone would suggest that they are achieving Glock's market share. The similarities between the Glock and the CZ100 are superficial at best.

Some would nominate the CZ100 as an underrated pistol. Others would deposit it in the "worst pistol I ever owned" category.

The CZ110 shows some promise, let's hope that a few are imported so we can make our own informed decisions.

Best wishes,

The company that everyone seems to ignore for semi-autos, Smith & Wesson. My 4513TSW has been without a problem for years, though the small grip and only 6+1 is a turn-off for a lot of people. If I bought the Gyro-jet commemorative boxed set in the late 60's - early 70's (?) I would have to look for an "over-rated pistol" topic.

hi,
the most underrated sportpistol is the Soviet/Russian MCM (aka Margolin) .22 LR.
It is at least 2 class above the Ruger Mk2 in the accuracy dept., 100% steel, the barrel is indestructible, even after some 100k rounds.

We have never seen one with outshot barrel.
I can shoot 1-1,5" 5-shot groups from 25 meters with my one.

In Europe it is about 250-300 USD as new, in my country it is 80-150 USD in used/good condition.

Look cool

Do you know who sell it in USA the aka margolin 22?

Thanks

"Do you know who sell it in USA the aka margolin 22?"

The larger (more expensive) brother, the IZH-35 is sold by EAA Corp in USA.

I don't know if they wanna import the MCM, too.

It would be a great idea, because this gun is a marvel.

Check this site out. The pics are about a tuning-version.

Auto: Makarov.

Wheelgun: Just about any quality traditional revolver is underrated by the "in" crowd these days. E.g., the S&W K-Frames or Ruger Security Sixes. Knowledgeable folks still know that they are excellent sidearms, but if all your gun knowledge comes from the media or gunzines, you'd think that somebody armed with a round gun is hopelessly undergunned today.

Another vote for the Ruger P-series. I've owned a P95DC and now own a KP97DC and they are excellent firearms. I still think if they had added another hundred bucks to the price people would love them.

I like 'em too!

"oldman" voted for S&W Third Generation semis....One doesn't see them on the covers of Gunmags(1911's and more 1911's seem to have cornered that market...hey...my next pistol is going to be a 1911!"), but I asked a local Cop what pistol he would recommend if his life depended on it: without batting an eye he said, "S&W." I got the Value Line 910s; 100% reliable and a great trigger.

I'm a pretty die-hard SIG bigot, but I bought a CZ75PCR over the summer, and I've got to admit that it's a match for my 228 - feels good, shoots right, thoroughly reliable. Ergonomics might even be a litlle better (lower bore axis). $100 less than the SIG (and I got a good buy on that).

Maks of course,

FEG PJK-9HP

CZ's

Those above I own, am interested in the Daewoo DP-51 which I hear is quite good and underrated. Comments?

Also interested in Arcus 94 (Hi-Power) - which others have mentioned already.

Also on my list is the IZH35m. I would buy a Margolin if they were imported as well.

I'm with the Taurus 92 folks... I've got a 99 and the only thing that doesn't work on it is the miserable rear sight assembly. With a 92 there'd be no problem.

FEG Pa-63's larger ppk style pistol, alloy frame light and snappy.
FEG PJK9HP's good steel, true bhp clone.
CZ 75's skinny slide, good grip.
Ruger p-series. Built like a tank, looks like one too.

I have not had the best luck w/ the "bargain" firearm. I have found greater value in paying a little more & getting the bells & whistles.
