Underrated pistols.....

As has been mentioned, S&W third generation autos. I have a 5906 that is an amazing firearm in every respect, from its double action trigger to the quality of its fit and finish including the internals. Ergonomics are a very subjective thing but I find this gun to be perfectly suited for my medium sized hand, a real shooter. Best regards, Mike

Most under rated autos: Star PD- the only compact 1911 style .45 thats WORKS. The Tokarev t-33- the ones made in Yugo and eastern europe are fantastically accurate, feed anything (I am talking 9mm, all 7.62 feed too) are slim and WORK in the worst conditions(and are prolly the strongest auto pistol) . The FEG RK-59 - the perfected PPK on steroids! The CZ-97-can anybody say THE best .45? The M-39 S&W - wiish I had the ASP I sold 10 years ago! And last but not least the Sigma, some call the Smegma, but mine (4 selected out of 10 I once had) are accurate, fire everytime , you won't cry if its lost and about the best car gun EVER ! :D :D :D

Igor...yeah I did have a gunsmith pin that little bugger in on my PT99..the sight would loosten after about 50 rounds.....he fixed it and I've had no more problems..........I'm going to the range today, and NOT bringing the PT,and now I wish I did.......leaving from work tho and it's too far to go home and get it......DUH:mad:

"The FEG RK-59 - the perfected PPK on steroids! "

hmm,
I really hate to shoot this model.

The aluminum-frame is too light, no "beavertail" at all, and the 9x18 Makarov is too hot for this. The slide always hit my hand between my thumb and finger.

But it is quite accurate, too.

The biggest complaint against the FEG Al-frame 9 mm maks, that their lifetime is well under 5000 shots.

I have a Republic Arms Patriot .45 that, once I found the right ammo, functioned flawlessly. Lightweight, smooth lines, and at only about $200 new, it fits the bill of "underrated."

I believe the Beretta 92/96's are under rated for a couple of reasons...

#1.- most 1911 fans hate then only because they became the military replacement for the 1911.

#1a.- Fans of the all powerful .45ACP also hate the 9mm, and deem it too small and weak to be effective....(the 9mm is closely associated with the Beretta M9/92FS by American shooters)

#2.- I rarely talk with other active shooters that have one, had one at one time, or care to own one at all.

#3.- Other active shooters that do own them, rarely want to talk about them, and many speak of them like a bastard step child...(one fellow reffered to his Beretta 92 as his junker that he tosses in the glove box without a holster)

I do on occassion meet other Beretta 92/96 fans, but they do seem few and far between. Personally, I think my Beretta is an outstanding firearm, and I'm more of a wheel gun man myself......

I've never met a Beretta that wasn't spot on accurate and 100% reliable out of the box.......that's why the 1911 guys hate them:D
I shhot a buddy's Elite better than ANY of my guns....he won't trade tho:D
Another buddy has 8 Berettas......he kind of likes them......

This is going to sound silly, but my vote goes to a customized 1911.

For far less than the price of a Brown or Wilson, you can get a new-rollmark Colt and send it to a master 'smith to make exactly what you want. $1300 would get you a Yost 1* gun; if you're looking for a classic, stellar-quality 1911, you cannot beat it for twice the price.

Plastic: Steyr M Series

1911: STI Trojan, etc.

Custom 1911: Any Rock River.......

C&R: EG Makarov

$1300
Yeah, It sounds silly indeed! :D :D

I'd say that Colt is underrated right now. More reliable and made of better materials than the Series II Kimbers out there now, and as often as not more accurate to boot if recent gun rag reviews are any indication. In a recent article a new Colt Gold Cup trounced a Kimber and SA in accuracy (and was 100% reliable), and a Kimber .38 Super target model shot >3" groups @ 25 yards... pretty appaling for something with "target" stapmed on it anywhere.

Also, while they are expensive, custom guns are subjected to constant, and largely ignorant, bashing on this and other forums. Of course, it is pretty funny to read about folks with $2,000 in assorted Rugers and Glocks imply that you that you are some kind of fairy for spending your gun money on one $2,000 gun that outshoots the lot of them instead. Yeah, I'm a fairy all right... the LEAD fairy! :neener:

Give Props

I agree with mephisto the whole Steyr line of pistols is uderated. You can pick up one of these guns for less then $300, and get better quality then 90% of the pistols sold out there for $600+.

I would suggest the CZ 97, you don't have many folks raving about it (except maybe 6 or 7 of us here) but it is a hell of a .45. Mine feeds anything I put in the magazine and it's an accurate gun too, my 1911s are a bit more finicky (why do we need both the "c & k" in finicky? Couldn't we do w/o one of them?:p ).
It does have a slightly larger grip frame, but other than that, it's a heck of a pistol. I have short fingers, but I can still shoot it pretty good. My only negative would be the sights, would like something more along the lines of the sights on the Sigs.

Sig P245, the 220's little brother.

It's not all that popular, for some reason, but it's a solid, reliable, accurate compact .45

I swear by mine.

Colt 1991A1. Mine has 1500 rds through it and had one magazine (I think) induced failure at rd 81. It's dead on accurate, fits my hand like it was made for it, points like an extension of my index finger (since I put an arched mainspring housing on it), has steel sights, and cost $550 NIB with two magazines.

Regards,
Happyguy:D
