Unlucky Glocksters!

I own a Glock 22 and 27 have about 3,000 rounds fired between the two. I have never had a kb and I reload for them. I own a Pakerized Springfield loaded 1911 with about 1200 rounds through it. I have fired hp,fmj and wad cutters through it and it has never and I mean never jam or fail to fire and I have left it the way it was when I got it. I also have a Smith 686plus with about 1,000 rounds through it.

Maybe it's just me, but that doesn't seem like that much ammo to say that they are jam proof. I know people that put that much ammo through a gun in a month.

Anyways Glock made changes to their 40 S&W pistols to make it the kabooms less common, but they should have never put a non-fully supported chamber on a high pressure round. Yes it might have made the frame of the pistol slightly longer but it would have prevented this issue.

PPGMD, Maybe it doesn't seem like alot to you but it is a good start. I'm not rich enough to shoot as much as some of you do, yes I reload but it still isn't that cheap. I will keep you informed as my numbers grow. By the way what is the magical number to determine if they are jam proof? just wondering. Will there ever be enough or will you not be happy until I post that I finally had a jam?

By the way I don't believe that there is a such thing as a jam proof weapon I just haven't had the pleasure to experience one yet.

OK... I suppose I have the right to answer this one. I've carried a Glock 19 for 13 years as I posted earlier.

The impression they make, is always the same.

Let's start with the stereotypes, shall we?

Poorly educated, have low paying jobs, and buy Glock because of the low price point.

Let's see...

THIS Glock 19 owner has 3 Bachelor's Degrees, a Master's Degree, and two professional designations. The smart money would be on ME having MORE education than you.

I carry a 1911 now because my wife wanted my Glock 19. Are you calling her poorly educated as well? She has a Bachelor's Degree, Master's Degree, and one professional designation.

So between us, we have 4 Bachelor's 2 Master's Degrees, and 3 professional designations.

Does a pilot evey have to get a college degree?

Shall we compare incomes next? My wife's uncle has been a pilot for Conteniental for well over 20 years. I have a good idea how a pilot stacks up against a seasoned (read: 15 year old) investment practice. I'm not overly concerned about your assessment.

They then become fanatical, about all things Glock.

The only thing I own with "Glock" on it is ...well, my Glock. Your stereotype fails again.

do not have much experience with other firearm platforms.

Considering I was reared in a firearms-oriented family, I likely have MORE firearms experience than you do. Considering I got my first handgun at 13 years old, I likely have more HANDGUN experience than you do.

For example. The majority of them, cannot tell you the difference between a Ruger Blackhawk, and a Freedom Arms 83 Premier.

Here's the first time you didnt' speak in absolutes. OK. Debatable-- as it would be with ANY group. Once again, your assumptions would be wrong with me.

In short, get over yourself. You show your arrogance and your ignorance simutaneously. Quite a feat, I must say...

Oh I would consider at least 5,000 in a gun, maybe 10,000. Honestly I don't believe any of the "My gun has never malfunctioned." Because anyone can say what they want on the internet.

Myself I have never had a jam that wasn't ammo, or user induced (I practice malfunction drills on a regular basis).

PPGMD, Well all I can say is that you have my word on it and if my word isn't good enough well you know what you can do:neener:. I really don't care if you believe me or not, all I know is that I have complete faith that my guns will work when I need them to. Nuff said.

***This Pilot didn't get a college degree ("ever") but I always use my "spell-check" before final posting.. lol

The real question to all of us is: are we smarter than a 5th grader? That appears to be where the real money is.

Wow. This thread has run the gamut. We have Glock bashers, Glock Kool-Aid drinkers, downright arrogance, and typo nazis all rolled into one. I feel even dumber for actually reading most of this crap. Do us a favor and lock this train wreck.

Just a point to make, no gun is jam proof or break proof. The way I look at it, as you fire more ammo, it's "jam-proofing" wears off. Springs get weak ect. ect. Heck my Ruger 10/22 never jammed when I got it (it was used, made in 1986. Just replaced the spring 5 months ago), then it started to jam once in a while, then it was once every mag. Had to replace the ejector spring, it got weak.

I tend to agree with you on the lock, but "typo nazi".. ?

Come on, ya need a touch of humor in your life.. ;) when you read these replies..

I got the sarcasm Lonestar, I was exaggerating everyone's replies myself. It does sort of show that there's not a whole lot else going on in this thread. I still thought it was funny though.

:) Honestly, no sarcasm was meant, just humor, in that, hopefully we all can laugh at ourselves now and then..

Glad you found the light-humor in it..

That is all it was meant to be and represent..

Lonestar,

Good catch. You know what is odd? When I type a long post, I cut and paste it into a MS Word document to see where my spelling mistakes are. "Evey" did not set off the MS Word spellcheck. I just did it again with no squiggly red line.

Of course, the difference between me and who I was addressing is that I don't toss such "value statements" around.

Some of the most intelligent persons I know never went to college. I also don't think income is a measure of the worth of a person either.

Thanks for the comments, my friend!

Where should I start?

OK, The 1911 platform is better than the glocks, berettas, cz's, sigs and hk's, and was still selling as good as them before the clinton ban in 1994. yeah, right. The clinton gun ban made gunwriters, along with gunmakers, start talking about ALTERNATIVES to the big firepower guns of the past, and opened the discussion to weapons that held 10 rounds or less, hence the 1911 craze. It's well documented, so If you bought a 1911 during the gun ban, you are sheeple, If they further ban handguns to small frame revolvers, you will all go to s&w's many teets and start sucking. "The taurus 85 is better than the 640", or "which .38 special for hogs! etc... That goes for all of you senior members too. Just cause you have run your trap 2715 times, doesn't make you worth a squirt of pee-pee to me or anyone else on here. What a Joke!

JW,

My MS IE toolbar "ABC Check" caught it, but it appears to be an actual word, but with the following checks:

Evey or Evy

I have no idea what they mean, so I need to get myself into a Holiday Inn and get a brain-fix.. lol

We're good my friend,

Back at ya John.. :)

I'm just curious...

Where does all this hostility come from? Its not only a tool, but a personal choice.

It almost seems like if I have a Glock, I cannot like a 1911. Or if I have a 1911, I shouldn't like a Glock. Oddly, I have both-- and like both.

I just don't get it. Here I am with a Glock that I've put countless rounds through over 13 years. It has saved my life once.

I never got the fanatical devotion to the 1911 that we see---until my first 1911 came in and I fired the first magazine. NOW I get it.

I absolutely love shooting my 1911, and I use it as my carry gun. But there ARE times where it is more feasable to carry my wife's Glock 19. In those times, I will-- and not worry about it.

I don't get the rabid hostility over this crap.

But then again, I also don't understand folks rioting when their football team loses-- or when it wins, either.

Ummmmmmm......maybe you should just try and stop. This is starting to have the looks of a train wreck and the next step is probably going to be a locked thread.

Are you jealous because they can still sell 1911's at 2,3, and 10 times the amount of a Glock? Must be those sheeple that still keep buying them after the ban is over, for way more than they should.

Mr Warren, it's just immaturity combined with a relative feeling of anonymity that drives many of these folks. Most of them, having been schooled in an enviroment where they were never considered wrong, or being out of line in expecting everyone else to comply or conform to there interpretation of the world. At least many of the under 30's fall into this category. You'll find very little room or tolerance for any real individuality with these folks and thats because they never really have been allowed to compete, or even learn how to compete as they progressed through the public school systems that produced them...At the very least, thats how I see it.......................

What's that old saw about wrestling the pig? Just makes him madder and you still get real muddy? Must ... resist ... getting drawn back in ... Oh, heck, just can't ... Steve is back, saying:

Do I detect some real animosity here? Hoo-wee ... So the 1994 Clinton gun ban is the real culprit behind the "1911 craze." Always wondered, 'cept, how come all the guys I knew were into 1911s before 1994? Anyway, call me Old Sheeple, then. And I do so like my old Taurus 85, as well as all my S&W revolvers (good thing I've been stocking up afore the next gun ban).

It's 2326, actually. And hey, I'm a serious guy, I'm not joking ...

I wasn't going to mention it... but since y'all are talking about it...

I reject the notion that the 1911 "craze" was part of the Clinton gun ban as well. I seem to remember that there were a lot of 1911 crazies even in the 1980's when my uncle shot competition with a Colt Goldcup. I swear that he considered it just short of The Holy Grail.

This thread is typical of the lack of civility that permeates every crevice of the internet, and more and more society in general. You'd think we could appreciate what we have in common without "I'm better than you" and "Mine's better than yours". My sister is a psychologist and her business is booming. So many people can't believe that everybody doesn't see it their way and won't change once "informed".

Must be quite a burden being a superior being in the valley of the clueless. Heck, I'm so clueless I've owned Glocks for over 20 years and have eight of them (and Sigs, Colts, HK's, CZ's,...). I know my kaboom is coming. I brace every time I fire one of the things. I'd stay and talk but I have to catch the Short Bus (tm) to town to pick up my food stamps. - Lee

There have always been devotees to the 1911....just as there have always been devotees to single-action-only revolvers.

But I don't think anyone can honestly deny that the magazine capacity limitations created by the ban helped bolster a renewed interest in the 1911.

And I believe that the Gulf War and the current wars in Iraq and Afghanistan also helped the 1911 because it showed that the 9mm, with military issued ball ammo, is not that effective for quickly dropping the enemy.

The bottom line is this:
The 1911 is a great pistol....a legend in fact!
It's a proven war horse and no one can ever take that away from it.

But times change and (sometimes) technologies advance....
The Glock in .40S&W and in .357Sig are better performers in my opinion:
More power than the old .45ACP, more rounds in the magazine, and all in a small-to-medium frame pistol that suits the average guy's (and gal's) hand.

And even the Glock 21 has many advantages over the 1911 while still retaining the .45ACP caliber....the grip is just too fat for me and many others.

I'm still on the fence concerning the .45GAP.
