Utah Gathering - Let's plan a big one.

Rescheduling would probably work better for me, right now. My wife dropped it on me that we are probably going to be doing a birthing class that Saturday. It isn't set in stone yet, but a post-partum shoot would work better with baby's schedule... :p

CrudeGT,
I'm in SLC up by the U. Eric lives up in Btfl.

Right now, rescheduling would work best for me. I know what a pain in the ass it is to reschedule something like this, though.

Then again, if there is so much going on, it probably won't be crowded up at Strawberry.

Just let us know what you think, George. I'll try to make it either way.

Wes

If you guys rescedule my group's out. No way in hell I can get another weekend off this summer, dad can't reshedule either, one brother already scheduled between 2 full time jobs. But whatever.:uhoh:

AAAHHH :cuss: :cuss: :cuss: .

Great end to a great month I guess:cuss: :banghead:.

Make sure to post a report when you do go though.

I think we've had the date set for quite a while. While I live close to HAFB and would like to see the air show, I would rather go out and shoot.
My wife had the baby early, so I no longer have that issue.

I also thought that the Impact machine gun shoot was June 19th. I was planning on going to that as well. I am pretty sure it is the weekend after we are shooting for.

I plan to drive my Suburban and I plan on camping out. So BIL and I plus probably the Fumegator will ride in my car. Eric and his new wife I believe are coming and they are not camping out last I heard. So they will probably take there own car.

Should be a couple of spots left in my ride if we all don't bring too much stuff.

Whatever you guys decide. I am for keeping the date.

Another thing I thought of is if any of us have those little Motorolla radios we could bring them and if we set up a channel that we all know, then if we get close we can direct each other to the spot. I believe they have a two mile range. I just got a set and am dying to try them out.

I, also, am keeping the date of the 12th. That is the weekend I got off work. Like I said earlier, I don't have any camping gear, so staying over night may be an issue, but I will be up there all Saturday and Sunday.

tetchaje1, If you wannt meet up, and carpool up there just let me know. I live in Murray.

Cool, I was going to go anyway, glad others will be there too.

Just got out of Corrieas CCW class, picked up some of my MOLON LABE gear.:neener: Great that he lives and works close to me, eh? He's still planning on the 12th as well.

Met PCRCCWs wife, nice girl. Cute too.:D

PCRCCW: Send me a PM with contact info, I need to speak with you.

Ben, you were there? and I missed ya? I got there late, and didn't want to interrupt, so I just hung out and checked out the range for a bit. But I went back out there around 1:45 to meet Correia, and check out the shooting portion of the class. He;s a great guy. I can't wait to chat with him more at the camp out.

Atc1man, I here ya. The down side is that I go camping about once every few years. So spending the money on camping would be a lost cause. I wouldn't use it enough to get my money's worth. BUt maybe I'll rent a sleeping bag and tent from REI or something.

yeah, I had to work today too. I need a new job... One with weekends off.

But it was cool to finally put a face to the name.

I think my brother has some camping stuff, I'll call him tomorrow and see what I can borrow. I jsut don't know if I can justify buying camping equip right now. I'm so short on funds I'm doing sidework for friends to help cover utilities. it's one of those times of year.

No problem, mostly just giving you a hard time. This is a great place to camp, though. My bills (besides house) will be 100% paid off in 9 months. I will be buying a pop up camper and a truck.
:D

Sweet, maybe you and I can chat about debt management. I'm always up for new suggestions. Can't wait to meet ya.

Cabin Rentals

I'm planning on bailing out for a few (week)days in June. Anyone know of some inexpensive cabin rentals with very easy access to flyfishing in Utah or Southern Idaho?
I will have my hounds with me, so somewhere pooch friendly would be nice.

That was a fun class. :)

Crude it was good to meet you in person. You missed Ben by probably 15 minutes is all. I actually ended up staying there a few more hours doing some remedial work with one shooter who was pretty much brand new. Once I switched her over to one of my revolvers with some soft reloads she did much better.

I love teaching. I still can't believe that people actually PAY me to talk about guns. :) The downside is that you need to condense everything you can into 4 or so hours. It really makes you realize how important it is for people to just keep learning on their own continually.

I'm still planning on being there on Saturday the 12th.

I was talking with my best friend's dad. He used to be a Salt Lake cop who taught CCW classes with this brother, who was also a cop. The class they taught was 16 hours, over 3 days. But that was probably 5+ years ago. I would love to go through a multiple day class. I think it's funny that it takes many weeks of reading and practice to get a license to operate a 2ton vehicle, but it only takes 4 hours and a piece of paper to qualify someone to carry a firearm. Always found that odd.

Larry, if you ever get that 500 round class you were talking about, up and running. Let me know. I would be willing to help in anyway possible, just for oppurtunity to participate. It sounds like loads of fun.

Can do.

It is interesting in that it takes me about 4 hours to go over the stuff that the state requires, plus anything else I can think of. Some states require 12 or 16 hours of instruction. (I believe Texas requires something like that), but what always intrigues me is that there is almost no difference between Texas (lots of mandatory training) and Vermont (no training, no permit neccesary) in the percentage of people carrying guns that they have a problem with. We have a pretty low training requirement compared to some, yet there have only been a handful of Utah permit holders that have screwed up.

Makes me happy. :) Our folks really are the best type of people out there.

The people who are serious about it are going to learn on their own as much as possible. Personally I'm going to throw a party when we finally someday go Vermont/Alaska style and it puts me out of business. :p

I'll let you know when we do that class. JackStraw and I need to work out the details.

When that gracious day come, and utah goes VT/AL style, I'll be doing the happy dance on the state capitol front lawn, with shoulder holster+P89, Hip holster+xd40, and shotgun slung over my shoulder. You can hold me to that.

Coupla things:

Since I can't go, I'm going to head out into the desert to go shoot on Thursday, the 10th. Anyone interested?
Since I'm bacheloring it, we can BBQ, clean guns, and drink beer at my haus afterwards. If I get any nibbles I'll set a time and meeting point.

Also, the following week, I'm planning on going fishing and camping. Two nights camping, on the other side of the Mirror Lake highway somewhere. June 15th and 16th. PM me for further details

Lastly, for those that don't know, there is a yahoo email discussion list setup for utah gun owners/enthusiasts. http://groups.yahoo.com/group/ut-firearms/ for signup information.

Crude, I'll bring the boombox and the CD with happy songs, like "Celebrate good times." I'll be wearing one HP at 4:00, another at 6:00, and my Shotty on a sling. :D

That is, if that day ever comes. *sigh*
