Biker, cassandrasdaddy,

I get where you are coming from. But the issue here is not one of compassion, or helping a fellow human out, but of a tresspasser, and a surley tresspasser at that.

Did this person approach the OP and ask permission to squat on his land? Offer to clear some brush in exchange for squatting on his land? No. He acted as if the landowner was infringing on his right to be a leach on society. Told the landowner to go the F___ away. He needed to be dealt with and quickly.

<Out ofline insult removed by Grammaw.>

If someone comes to my door and tells me they are hungry, I have no problem with feeding them. If they try to steal from my locked freezer in my barn, they will be met with the same force any other burglar would be met with.

The point is that the line for compassion ends at the property line unless you have been invited, otherwise you are an intruder.

did he?

tell the landowner? or the land owners son in law? had the actual landowners confronted him? or just avoided the confrontation . and with no harm done\

its a sad time when so many live in fear either of harm or of lawyers.
damndest thing is i'm a lil guy unarmed and don't have keys to my house and i don't live in fear. when i lived in dc i had some but even there i wasn't cowering. and again i was unarmed. patton had it right about fear. fear keeps you looking in the wrong direction. many of the real threats out there dress up nice wear suits. but folks would rather talk tough about working over someone who can't defend sometimes i think i'm messed up then i come on here and hear some folks who make me feel a lot better about myself and hoji please understand my comments after first 5 sentence fragments were not meant to be at you. far from it

there are 2 sides to every story, the landowners story, the squatters story and then there's the real story, we haven't heard the last 2.
It would seem to me that if the person wanted to do anyone harm, he would have done it the first night and been gone with no one even seeing him. JMO

and apparently

he'd been there a while. though i gotta admit if i was leaving my family to go overseas i's wanna check this guy out too. just not so scared that i'd talk anykinda smack about hurting him. not that the op did but the usual cast of heroes slithered out to help cast the image of gun owners as troglodytes in stone

Since kir's comments in Post #45 pretty much settled the deal, this all looks like a lot of wandering around off topic...

I suggest that those who posted some sort of Keyboard Kommando notions should check their state laws about trespass and the use of any force, much less deadly force.
