Does anyone know if there was ever a military issue "spoon" or magazine loader made for recharging VZ58 magazines from stripper clips while off the rifle?

I'm not looking for anything large like a Maglula or Cammenga, just a small unit that could be pinned to a bandolier or tossed into an ammo can with ammo packed in stripper clips.

If such an animal isn't available, has anyone out there had any success modifying another small mag loader such as the AK type?

If so, could you please post some pics of the finished product?

I doubt it, that's what the bolt carrier cuts were for, after all. The VZ mag profile is pretty similar to the AK's, I'm sure if you relieved a LULA for the VZ's carrier-catch tab & rib it would work well enough.

Had a disappointing range day yesterday with my vz2008. Was shooting some of the range's ammo I've never seen before, it came in a plain white box and the headstamp said SADU, with green sealant. I had several failures to extract, even one where the extractor ripped a chunk of the rim off. I'm hoping this is an ammo related problem, as I couldn't even tell for sure if the steel cases were coated at all, felt like bare steel to me. Has anyone else had problems with this ammo?

I can't be sure though as this is only my second outing with this particular rifle which was a warrantee replacement. I want to get out again this week and shoot my regular tula and wolf through it and confirm.

On the plus side the VZ seems like it is designed in such a way that would prevent the infamous SKS jam-nose-of-next-bullet-into-chambered-round's-primer failure. In my case the round in the chamber had already been fired, but even if it had not the next round did not contact the primer area.

I wouldn't be a bit surprised if the ammo was to blame here.

SADU is Romanian and is currently being imported by Century under their "Hotshot" label.
I don't have any personal experience with the ammo, but it doesn't have a particularly good reputation.

It's one of the few 7.62x39 headstamps that I won't reload. I picked up 20 identically headstamped SADU cases at the range and they varied almost 10 grains in weight between them. My assumption is that the cases were all from the same box since there were only 20 of them there.

Try and get some Golden Tiger, it gives better accuracy than other currently available steel cased ammo in my rifles. Plus the cases are still lacquer coated and sealed at both the primer and case mouth.

I can almost guarantee that it'll give you better accuracy than current Wolf or Tula (excepting the Wolf Gold by Privi Partizan).

Got a notice from czechpoint on their compact pistols in stock....always wanted one but missed the first boat. couldn't miss the boat on this one...cause they sold out pretty damn quick. Will be getting soon:) picture of the one ordered

We need a Vintorez clone, stat! Somebody slap a stock and a suppressor on that bad-boy

A thousand bucks, though; that's a real hard sell alongside the VZ2008's for less than half that. The guns are nice, and I love my used CP even more than the Century, but I don't see them competing well so long as they cost more than equivalent quality ARs, AKs, and even some 308 platforms. Lucky for them/all there's such a crazy excess of demand to go around it doesn't really matter for the time being :p

After passing on a local used sale of a VZ2008 with canted sights out of the box, I paid a little extra and bought a brand new one from Atlantic Firearms which offers QC for all their rifles. That means Century probably sends them their best because if anything has crooked sights it immediately is sent back on their dime.

And I really like my VZ2008. It's a straight shooter.

Hey guys I have a vz2008 and need help on the two leaf springs that make the trigger so damn heavy! I can't bend the right leaf spring down but everyone else make it sound like its so easy to bend down! Please help!

I envy those who live where they can apply for SBR, at least for me it's a no go... this is the best I can do...try not to laugh, I'm sensitive

Re trigger pull

I need some help with my vz2008 I can't bend the right hand leaf spring down as hard as I try it just comes back up. How'd y'all bend it down?

Bignick, try cutting a slot in a piece of 1/4" or bigger keystock (maybe even flatstock?) with a dremel cut off wheel and thereby making a tool you can get some leverage on. That way you could slip a small pipe on it if needed. I didn't have to make this mod personally, so someone else may have a better idea. Just throwing it out as a possible idea as it seems like it would work to me. * Ifit, Id love to own either one of those SBR/pistol set ups.

Vz2008 modifications

In the process of customizing my vz2008. Out a CNC warrior flash hider on it, as well as paracorded the stock. I took the original handgaurd and added rails to it and made it black so I put a front grip on it. Waiting for my fab defense pistol grip and Ranlite red dot mount but starting to come together!! Picture of it is attached

I have modified the NcStar mag loader, http://www.amazon.com/NcStar-7-62x39-Loader-Unloader-Misc/dp/B00399DE2K, but I think it is bigger than what you're looking for.

Got the bends

Got what I assume is the infamous century arms bent piston the other day. It is not visibly bent and it seems ok when I roll it around on a flat surface but it must be at least a little because it only fits back in when rotated a particular way. I didn't actually experience any malfunctions but noticed while changing a mag that the pistons was partially sticking out and when cleaning it was a bear to get out. Waiting to see what Century says, but assuming I want to switch to an original piston, am I correct that I can change out the grip or handguard on my Vz2008 to a U.S. made accessory to maintain compliance?

Admittedly it was about 98 degrees outside the day I was shooting it, so it was a punishing day for both the shooters and the guns, but I'm still disappointed that they haven't gotten around to fixing that problem yet (this was a new rifle manufactured within a year ago).

Does anyone have recommended sources for the above parts?

Huh? First I've heard of it. It only fits back in a certain way...hmmm...have you tried spinning the thing while installed? If so, does is bind periodically? I'd be more inclined to believe a repro-piston has a slightly fat diameter at the journal that fits through the receiver block, making things much tighter and more finicky, or an overall length too long or something to install easily, than it being bent from the factory. I also wonder if it might simply be a needlessly sharp or burred corner at that hole in the receiver, giving you less wiggle room than needed to tilt the piston out. Even for Century, it's a pretty simple part, so I'd be surprised at it being made wrong (and even more at it failing in use, given how short it is.) Why not just buy a Bonesteel Arms or other repro, of same or better quality? You are only saving at most 10$ over a repro.

I haven't researched it but I've heard accounts of the century made pistons bending after use, either due to improper heat treating or whatnot. This is what I believe to be the case here, as it wasn't an issue before and is now. And correct in that when installed it doesn't spin, there is now only one orientation where it will freely move back and forth, otherwise it binds.

I did not know bonesteel made a piston, but i will look into that.

Gun Expert railed dust cover now EU only

Apparently EU customs officials suddenly decided that these are major gun parts. I believe vz58rifle.com is appealing that decision, but who knows when or if these will ever be available in the US again. I really wanted one :(

I wouldn't swear to it, but I think the front site drums are of different diameters, so are the threads of the front sight stems.

The rear sights are a complete mismatch.

If you threw enough money or time at it, you could probably make them work somehow.

My guess is that it'd be easier and cheaper to just buy some tritium lamps and figure out how to install them on the existing sights.

That's disappointing. I think I'll just lobby the company to come out with some specifically for the VZ series. Although I could just throw on a budget red dot like the TRS-25 as I had originally planned.
