It just seems that Wal Mart does come up alot on gun boards, especially GT.
No kidding. Maybe we should just sticky the following statement:
Walmart requires salespeople to verify the age of anyone buying ammo. You must be 18 to buy ammo typically used in long guns, 21 for handgun ammo. Sometimes they ask if the ammo is for a handgun or rifle so they know what age to check for.
These threads always crack me up. My favorite posts are from the tin-foil hat people that think Walmart is tracking they're every movement so they can sell the info to .gov to make it easier to find you when they want to implant the tracking chip. The "handgun or rifle" question seems to particularly upset this crowd.
I also like the "They never card me" posts. If you're grey-haired, use a walker, or stroll around with the top of your Depends visible above your baggy pants, then it's not going to take a rocket scientist to deduce that you're north of 21. I'm 43 and look it. When the salesperson is experienced, or has a glimmer of intelligence in his/her eyes, they'll skip right past the ID question and sell me the ammo. These are the people that have a future outside of Walmart. (That's when I go to a store out of state. In Mass, we need an FID or gun license to buy ammo).
Sometimes I get carded because the register asks the clerk to do it. If the register asked the same clerk to do the Chicken Dance before selling me the ammo, they'd do that too. Unless they're very young, these people have reached their professional ceiling as a clerk at Walmart. If fate is kind to them, they'll look good in a blue vest.
I once met a Walmart store manager that told me about a Walmart store somewhere that got dinged for selling ammo to a minor, and they've since made it their policy to check ID. Nobody should be offended. They're not being nosy, they're just covering their corporate butt.
