Sheslinger's handgun of choice by far is the Walther P99. We have a full size P99 Titanium that has digested an uncountable number of rounds without ever malfunctioning. It really has been a stellar handgun. Based on this she has wanted a smaller purse gun and is not a revo person so of course the first choice is a compact P99.

Well we picked up a compact Smith and Wesson 99 some time ago and like most other Smith plastic guns I have had experience with it malfunctioned often. We got rid of it. Well we recently came across the CDNN add for the Walther P99 Compact and figured we would give it a try. So 519.99 Tax Tags and Title later we had a Walther P99AS Compact and six magazines in our hands. So how did this fully proofmarked German version do? In a word WOW!

I am picky when it comes to defensive guns. I don't believe in "break in" periods for anything but highly accurate target pistols or 1911s. I have never had to break in a SIG, or an HK or a Ruger or a Walther etc. So based on this I am tough to please as far as autos go.

So after 200 rounds of various ball and hollow point ammunition with shooting the firearm sideways, upside down, left handed, right handed, two handed and basically attempting to make it malfunction it simply would not. It felt great in the hand and didn't recoil any more noticeably with hot defensive ammo vs. target ball.

As far as accuracy goes once I stopped trying to over control the little guy it would just put rounds into the same tiny group as fast as you could pull the trigger. Sheslinger was even able to shoot it one handed with incredible accuracy result.

So all in all this gets my seal of approval for a family defensive handgun and I am even thinking about picking up another one for me. :D :uhoh:

I know this thread is worthless without pictures but I don't have any at this time.

So my rating is as follows. Out of a possible 5 Rounds............

Reliability----5 rounds
Comfort -----5 rounds (Glock should take a lesson here)
Accuracy ----4 Rounds (It is a tiny gun with a tiny sight radius so some skill is required)
Capacity ----- 5 rounds (11 rounds of 9x19mm +p hollowpoint :D)
Finish ----- 5 Rounds (Tennifer, the best thing about Glocks)
Trigger ---- 3 Rounds (Excellent for a plastic gun but it ain't no 1911 or P7)
Takedown ---- 4 Rounds (Not as easy as a SIG but No pulling the trigger either)
Concealability -----3 Rounds (Not as good as a single stack but damn good)

All in all 4 out of 5 rounds. I love the little guy.

Since I had a hard time finding people with actual experience with these on the net I figured I would post my experience.

Take care, shoot safe,

Chris

Thanks, cslinger for the report. The P99C is my next handgun purchase. I just hope that CDNN still has some AS models available when I have the money.
