Webley info

I thought the Webley-Fosbery was fascinating after first seeing Sean Connery run amok with one in the movie Zardoz! My more knowledgeable friends advised me at that time parts were extremely difficult to procure, and parts on those were known to break in use. That was enough for me, especially after finding the great balance of a good German P08 in my hand vs any revolver much less a large caliber Webley!

Oh man Zardoz thought me to love the Webley-Fosbery also... "The gun is good...." I will exclude the 2nd part out of propriety..

The Singapore Police revolvers had a safety. The special run of 250 Last Webleys did not.

I remember adverts in Shotgun News for those. $250 seemed like a lot then, but by now it would be counted a good investment.

Modern commercial .38 S&W ammo is readily available, but the original .38/200 loading is not. If you don't use that heavy-bullet loading, the sights will be off. (.38/200 ammo may be available from Matt's Bullets.)

Once upon a time, Webley would sell you a foresight of the right height for 146 grain commercial .38 S&W.

So got hooked on watching the beginning of Zardoz to ID some of the guns.... And I tell you I am now convinced that those Exterminators are whack jobs... Where as I do like their masks & rather elastic gun control policies .......but ...... I had my suspicions about them with their very aggressive "Just Say No Forever" policy. But now having watched that ground gun grab scene several times and none of those guys grabbed that MP-40.. Now that is just not right.

Funny how much interest is being shown for the lowly Enfield these days.
I can remember when these revolvers sold for next to nothing and were regarded as junk.

Amen .... how about those Iver Johnson revolvers... I use to pick those up in bad shape for a few dollars and then take them to police buy backs because there was no market for them and no one would buy them but those buy backs.. geez now people are collecting them..

I didn't notice the MP40 but I did notice what I think is a MP28 / Lanchester being picked up.

One of the trivia notes for this movie is a complaint by John Boorman about having difficulty getting girls in Ireland to take their tops off (at that time). Maybe the weather wasn't as warm as a Mediterranean beach that season?

Also of Sean Connery having to be the horsepower for the cart scenes, especially complaining about scenes shot when going uphill.

No , I sold someone on this forum a very nice condition Singapore Police gun , which had that safety on it. I think the Shanghai Police ones had it to and the "Sun never sets on the Empire" last Webleys had it too for the Brits as you could still get a fire arm license then . I notice the Sinapore police guns in the high condition the one I sold are now more than double what I got! But I am glad he got it , he shares my fondness for the .38 S&W round AND my love of Webleys.
I hear he says he would not sell it for twice what he paid for it. But he's not very bright.

Hmmm maybe they are not as whacked after all, the Lancaster is pure Cadillac.. Per Mr Boorman's problems with the girls in Ireland, heck, I have had that problem all my life...
