After 40 years of carrying some heavy iron( S&W 10-6 ,1911 and then a Glock 21 on my right hip I am starting to get some hip problems that are affecting my gait because of pain. My Doctor had me stop carrying of my hip and the pain went away. I tried carrying at different locations with unsatisfactory results, I guess because of habit and muscle memory I always go back to hip carry. I use good wide well made belts for support.
I was wondering if Crossbreed ,Alien wear or other similar holsters distribute the weight enough to get by. I am looking at something that I could conceal under a shirt. I really don't want to have to carry a mouse gun in my pocket when I go into a urban setting.

Any recommendations would be appreciated.

CrossBreed holsters do spread out weight very effectively. However, I personally, would still recommend a smaller gun. Light single stacks carry effortlessly in a hybrid-type holster.

I carried a full size SR9 in one for a while, then an PF9, and now a 637. All in a CrossBreed or similar setup.

The SR9 was just too big to carry on a regular basis IMO. Awkward and printy. The KelTec was very comfortable and carried almost like nothing at all. The jframe is nice and light too, but the bulge from the cylinder causes a slight annoyance from time to time. I can tell it is there more often then not. Whereas a small 9mm can be practically forgotten about.

I'm with you brother on the lifetime of carrying a gun on my right hip. Have a few pains myself.

Here is something I have found, but it may not work in all situations. I took up "wild west acting" in my later years and during this time I carried my "hogleg" crossdraw, i.e. on my left hip, butt forward. It made a world of difference. Now, when I can I try to carry CCW cross draw. When that won't work, I use an IWB holster like Alien Holsters or go back to the FBI cant leather pancake.

I've tried shoulder holsters in the past, but never took much of a shine to them.
