I use Hydra-shoks. But that's just because they are what feel good to me. I will however, be picking up some Double Tap Gold Dots pretty soon. Got to love those numbers!!

I voted other.

Figures

Free.
:)

Wellll...now let me clarify, I have Free 124grainers for 9mm by Fed, Speer, Rem and Black Hills.
I happen to like 124 grainers in 9mm, and all these are fine in my gun.
I also have 115 gr Win STHP, and I forget what else I have.

I gots some FMJ I carry as well from various Mfgs.

I do NOT have any Ranger , Corbon, Hornady loadings.

Free is good - right? :D

In my KT P-11 i carry Federal 9BP 115gr
JHP's,any other 9mm gets Black Hills
115gr GD JHP's loaded to +P levels.

Many good defense loads on your list.I voted other because I carry 147gr. Federal HST in my G17.I would be quite content to carry Winchester Ranger T or Corbon DPX.

I carry a lot of stuff at different times. Here are the most common handgun/loading combinations I use:

- 9mm CZ's and BHP get Win Ranger 127 Gr. +P+
- 124 gr. GDHP's 9 (non +p version) in my PT111
- PT140 gets Doubletap .40S&W 165 gr. Gold Dots
- 1911's get DT's 230 gr. GDHP.
- .38 snubbies= Remington 158 gr. LSWCHP
- .357's get Speer SB 135 grain in the SP101
- Buff Bore 180gr. Hardcast solids in my GP100 or S&W 27 when in the woods.
- P3AT .380 gets 90 gr. Fed Hydrashok's

I pack the WWB 147gr JHP. Why? Because I can afford to shoot it a lot and I know it's going to work.

No matter where I do this poll, it always seems to comer out pretty much the same. Gold Dots a clear leader and Hydrashoks in a respectable second.

Given that a few here voted other, but still favor the Gold Dot bullet with someone else's loading, I'd say it's far and away the winner.

Corbon DPX for me. In terms of a production bullet, I'm not sure there's a better bullet than the Barnes XPB.

I'm one of those uncouth people who carries several different sidearms and I have them stoked with different ammo because I just think the type of hollow point ammo is less important than other things. During the last couple weeks I've carried:

Glock 30 .45 golden sabers
Glock 36 .45 silvertip hollowpoints
Glock 23 .40 corbons
Glock 27 .40 corbons
S&W 442 .38 +p federal loads
Kel-tec p11 9mm black talons
Kel-tec p3at .380 corbons
CZ RAMI .40 corbons

and that leaves out the
Kahr mk .40
Para LDA C6 .45
Makarov 9X18 corbons which gets some carry every now and then.

C.C. Ammo

SPEER Lawman Gold Dot HP/9MM 147 Gr. &
WINCHESTER Ranger 40S&W 155 Gr. JHP and most anything else for the range.

The DPX bullet seems to eliminate the classical, longstanding shortcomings of the .45acp, and brings it smartly into the 21st century.

For the 642, I use the Speer snubbie load.

I have, at one time or another, carried Hornady XTPs and Speer Gold Dots in 9mm, and have carried Remington Golden Sabers and Speer Gold Dots in .45.

Right now I'm using Gold Dots across the board. My 9mms (especially the Hi Powers) really like the standard-pressure 124-gr Gold Dot, and I keep 230-gr Gold Dots in the 1911.

I'd like to try some of the newer Federal Tactical Bonded, but it looks an awful lot like the Gold Dot anyway. It would take something serious to get me to drop the Gold Dots, especially in 9mm.

Why does popularity matter? Gold Dot and HydraShok have been very popular ammo for a very long time. Does that make them better?

In all modern ballistics testing I've seen that included them, Federal HST was obviously superior to Gold Dot, Ranger, Golden Saber, HydraShok, Double Tap, and everything else. The 147-grain 9mm HST is just amazing. DPX appears to be a close second to HST with better barrier performance but slightly worse overall performance.

Many people mentioned they use HST, but you didn't even put it on your list, so obviously that's not going to win. If you did put it in, it probably wouldn't win because it's somewhat new, unknown, and hard to find.

DPX is obviously a wonderful choice, but is specialty ammo that most people have to order and it costs much more than other popular defensive ammo, so it's not going to win either.
