What did you shoot today?

Shot my Sig P229 and P230 as well as my Walther (S&W era) First Edition PK380. The former were simply divine and the Walther was Ok.

I was trying some weak hand shots with the PK380 and really pulled several shots way right. Still in the 8 ring but hate that.
Sig 230. One doesn't see those every day.
I have it's brother, a Sig 232, and I don't think any other handgun that I have ever picked up has felt as good in my hand.

Wonderful guns.

Do like my Sigs. And even my pre Sig connection JP Sauers. Here is one of my JP Sauer 38h pistols that was made in 1942. In this version the decocker lever works to both cock and decock the internal hammer.

I shot my Royale this afternoon.

First was to shoot the 50’ target standing off shooting sticks. I dialed the power to low which sends a 18.1 grain pellet at about 525 fps. That is the target you see pictured here. No adjustment just hold on the dot and pull the trigger.

After dinner (Costco pizzas) I went back out and set up paintballs @ 35 yards. I dialed the power up to high which sends an 18.1 grain pellet at 890 fps. I shot standing with the gun rested on trigger sticks.

This was a very satisfying couple of shooting sessions. I am really enjoying the change up shooting off sticks while standing at 50’. It’s a great change of pace.

Not today but this weekend I'm shooting a match with a guy I used to work with. He started with several of us as county correctional officers. 3 of us were 49 to 55 years old. He was 19 . Got him out to a USPSA match a few years later maybe 12 or 13 years ago. He had fun but with a wife and kid didn't get going with the matches. Now he's joined USPSA and starting to shoot our matches. I saw he was signed up last month but I ended up having to miss the match. Now he's around 40 and I'm 70. Looking forward to it. I retired 9 years ago.

Euro Stock 1.jpg

Tested from 25 yards. Federal AutoMatch was the big surprise coming in first in front of CCI-SV, Federal HV Match and Blazers.

Clark 20 inch barrel torqued to 18 inch pounds. Stocky's Euro Stock, OEM trigger housing polished and I think there's a Volquartsen hammer in there but it's been a long time since I first built it.

Nice day. Very little wind. Shot a group of 10.
Went back to the basement and made 10 more with half gr more. No diff. 6mm ARC. Surplus to me H. LVR , 100 gr pro hunter. With a TC pro hunter. Thumb hole molded butt stock is too low. 16 + inch barrel. Super low mounted 2x7. My range is 125 yards and it shot 2.25 inch. You know I'm not disappointed. Seen worse.

Yesterday a friend brought his scoped Remington .308 to the club's 500-yrd Rifle gulley. 18" barrel, Vortex scope, rifle near-mint; gift from the widow of a late Fedex coworker (MD-11 Maintenance).

Maybe it was my fifth time using (any) a telescope on Any rifle, but I'm 68 years old:scrutiny:. I managed to hit the gong at 500 yards. I only tried one time.
An astute club member, the XO, looked at the data on the box of Rem Gold .308 ammo, and said to put the scope's tiny "12" index on the large gong.

Iirc the 12 is in direct correlation with a typical 5' drop of the 168-grain bullet from 500 yards?
Because 12 x 5=60"? I'm decent with ciphering but I've Never before paid any attention to explanations of scope indexes.

Complete With TacSoll Barrel.jpeg

Took my Steel Challenge gun out today to teat the trigger. I just added a Powers Custom trigger kit to it and I'm happy with 1 pound 12 ounces averaged 10 pulls on my Lyman Digital Scale.

Shooting with a C-More Railway red dot with 12 MOA dot I was grouping very well, good enough for SC. I had one problem. The trigger wouldn't reset. I used the Bobby Pin trick on this gun and didn't have the pin pushing on the trigger hard enough. Once I got it home I reform the spring and my trigger return problem is solved.

Now that it's all sighted in and working correctly I just received an e-mail that the match has been canceled do to flooding on the range. Well, that means March will be it's inaugural and I look forward to it.

Enjoyed a sunny, snow free day and it even got up to about 62 degrees. Pretty unusual for February. Glad I made my first range trip of the year. Decided to concentrate on rimfire stuff and the only centerfire was the Ruger Redhawk .44 Magnum for some handload testing. Was in one of the 7 or 8 pistol bays at the club, and this one you can shoot as far as 30 yards so I brought along a couple rimfire long guns. Fine tuned the 30 yard zero on the CZ-455 with Federal Automatch 22LR that it really likes, then did the same with the 10/22 using Wolf Match Target, Federal Automatch & CCI Blazers. Brought a bunch of clay birds, put 'em on the berm and proceeded to turn them into little pieces from 10-15 yards with the Ruger Mark II pistol in 22LR and the Ruger Single 6 Convertible with the 22 Magnum cylinder in it. IMG_9705.JPG . IMG_9704.JPG . IMG_9377.JPG . The 44 Magnum is still right on with its hunting load. My only complaint is that no deer ever appeared this past season when I had it out. At least I know it's still hitting where I aim it. All in all it was great winter break.

Shot the .380's today. Haven't had the bottom one long and only shot factory ammo through it before. Tried it with the same reloads I shoot in the top one I've had for years just to make sure it'll handle them. The laser came on it but didn't power up. Picked up a battery and was pleasantly surprised to find out it's the green TR8. And it's probably gonna be removed.

All you guys with decent Scope experience out there are in a different world. No b.s., no exaggeration—:feet:

I’m 68, and made my first distant shot with a telescopic sight (Vortex) only a week ago. Maybe three times with Previous scopes , and 100 yards.

This time .308 into a gong at 500 yards was quite a novelty.
Rem. bolt-action 18” barrel, Federal Gold ammo. My buddy didn't know which index mark to use.

The club’s XO told us to Put the “12” index on the large gong's center or maybe upper area. Luckily his solution, based partly on the ammo box's info + his experience allowed my buddy, who is about 53, also not truly ‘trained’…to hit the gong twice!

I clocked a few of my new 9.3X62 250gr AccuBond loads at an average of 2,572 fps. It's a medium-hot load, but all seems fine, except my shoulder. It's a light rifle.

I mentioned a few days ago that I was shooting a match today with a guy I started working with 20 years ago. He's 30 years younger and I retired 9 years ago. We shot the match and had a great time, beautiful day out too. He knows one of the other shooters and this was his 2nd match.

The kicker to the deal was that about 2 years ago he heard that I had passed away. Last year another old coworker called me. I could tell something was up. He'd heard I was gone too. When I first saw him at the match he ran up and said "I ve got to give you a back slapping hug." He thought I'd been gone for two years. I told hin to let everyone know I'm still kicking.

Went and put another 50 rounds through my 10mm Glock 29 and another 100+ rounds through my PPK. I am really loving the new Glock and falling back in love with the PPK.

I took my 6.5 CM, Mosin Nagant 91/30 PU sniper & one of my AK47s to shoot off a few partial boxes of ammo. The 6.5CM & the sniper had to get rezeroed. I don't know what happened but they were off just enough that anything past 200yds I was missing. A quick adjustment & they were back to normal.
