What did you shoot today?

My (SAR import) Imbel FAL and the Czechpoint VZ-58.

Despite the abrupt, high tension at the beginning of the FAL's pull, managed to hit a 300 yard gong a few times.

The Czechpoint's trigger is much better, but its Leaf sight certainly can not be compared with an aperture sight .

This gent (Rob Ski: "AKOU") from Poland has a very popular channel which evaluates Whether various guns have the steel grade/assembly quality + headspace to last 3,000, sometimes teested to 5,000 rds. Barrel temps are periodically checked to avoid accelerated wear and damage.

Sidenote: comparing a VZ-58 with a Red Dot (etc) to a different AR-15, in 7,62x39) with a Red Dot could have some validity versus totally Different sights on different types of guns?:)
I don't have a "dog in that debate" ; and my targets are 30-50 yards, and really don't give a **** anyway......

Out changing SD cards in trail cams today on my friend's land. Had the Ruger Single 6 which had the 22LR cylinder in it today. On the way out I put 36 rounds through it on his little .22 & handgun range at one of those rubber bouncing reactive targets. Lots of fun and I discovered that it's shooting low. Has a new fiber optic front & rear sight; the rear sight is adjustable but I didn't have a small enough screwdriver with me to raise the rear sight a bit. At least I know where it's shooting and can make adjustments next time it's out. Those fiber optics are really nice for older eyes. Good times on a warm summer afternoon.

Tried out my suppressor for the first time today. Pro’s: it’s novel, “useful” and the aesthetics are pleasing. Cons: so much gas in my face.

Tested (4) 10mm handloads for cycling in the SR1911.

Plinked 22LR, standing unsupported. Good shooting at 30 yards but mediocre at 40 yards.

Planned on shooting the 10/22 at my friend's place but life got in the way. Had some free time this afternoon so the 22 cal. Benjamin Trail air rifle got the nod in the state owned woods next to me. Had some new Hatsan Vortex pellets of 17.75 grain weight I've never tried before so I just did some offhand plinking with them. The gun is sighted in for 14.3 grain Crosman Premier pellets and my informal testing showed that they shoot close to each other but not real close. No surprises there. Might try squirrel hunting with it in September again as long as I don't stretch the range out past 25 yards. More good times on a warm summer afternoon..Here's a pic of it out in the woods from last summer. IMG_4689.JPG , & the new pellets with the Crosman Premiers. IMG_8897.JPG ..

It was Demo day at my range with Springfield releasing their latest and greatest Echelon black wonderful 9mm handgun chassis. They had two to shoot, one to give away on a drawing, and five for sale.

I was first to shoot and......it shot a lot like a black 9mm striker fired handgun.

I will know by 5pm if I cash in on my 2% chance to win the gun. If I do it will be a great auction item for my son's baseball fundraiser.

Yesterday a friend came by with a stainless Stoeger Coach Gun 20 gauge that he'd bought back a few years ago. He's a banker, not a gun guy, and had yet to shoot it so I gave him a lesson on it's care and feeding. He was very leery of the recoil but after a few rounds he was fine.
Nice little shotgun, I kinda want one now...o_O

S&W 642-1, Taurus G3C and Mossberg 500.
Been struggling with the 642 for a couple years. Just couldn't get the hang of it. But today it seemed I just maybe have it figured out.
The G3C continues it's over 1000 round run without a single fail of any kind.
The Mossberg 500 keeps trying to kick this old mans "76" rear. But I still got it. So far. 20220919_100809.jpg 20220921_185419.jpg 20200615_175949.jpg

Shot the Mk2, 10-22 and Springfield Meteor with my son. He shot all 3, but liked the Meteor single shot, cock on closing, the best. We went through 325 rounds of Federal Auto match shooting clays off the berm.

I will say this carton of Auto Match was a little disappointing. Varying recoil, failure on ejection and varying report. I believe these are the ones my wife bought me when they were just coming back on line with production. Normally this ammo runs flawlessly.

I shot 5 clay targets.
I had a college age boy (from a family I know) ask me about buying his first gun- a shotgun. He had never shot a gun and neither had his father but he was curious and supportive of his son. After some discussion I recommended a 12g pump. Gave him some options and he went shopping and bought a remarms 870 FieldMaster. He was excited but knew nothing other than what he could get out of a few YouTube videos.
They came out to the farm and we covered gun safety, shotgun 101, assembled the new gun and talked about chokes and shot size etc then went up on the hill with the trap. The father and son shot 95 rounds and I shot the last 5 because they insisted.
Had a cleaning and basic maintenance lesson afterwards.
It was a great day!

I got this text message from the father,

“This is one of the best times Kevin and I ever had. Thanks so much for your generosity and graciousness. Look forward to shooting it (whatever it may be )more in the future!”
