It’s a 22 LR, only marking on the barrel is “22LR only, greaseless”. It has gills,,, and that distinctive safety, which I have seen before, but can’t remember...Has a trap door in the butt. the sights have removes and the dovetails filled in pretty nicely,,,has a cheap Weaver scope, I asked the guys over on the Rimfire Central,,,no solid ideas yet. I’ve never seen that safety on a Mossberg, so I’m guessing Stevens/Savage. Best I can find its an unmarked J. Stevens Model 87A Semi-auto rifle that looks its been modified in the past.

I am sure the stock is not original to that rifle.

Took the scope off and there it is. ‘Ranger 101 11A’.....perhaps a Savage 6 made for Sears in the thirties. I am still puzzled by the safety on mine.

It shoots very nice,,, probably more accurate than I. The safety puzzles me,,, I know I have seen that type before,,,but can’t remember,,It required some drilling in the stock to fit......there is the word ;’safe’ on the barrel where one might expect a safety,

Looks like my ranger 101.16 sears and robuck... at first glance, Steven's 6 when I look for parts... looks like my stock too...almost same gun, mine is a great shooter too, semi auto 22lr when you pull knob out, single shot when you push knob in for 22 short and long...sorry I meant savage 6 not stevens

Well, it has that different safety on it....I’m hesitant to take it apart until I figure out what to do with that safety,,,
There is a bolt to release the barrel, but the barrel band also goes around the tube. So where to go with that, I’m not sure. Need to figure that out.

My stock is fine,,,,I haven’t taken it apart yet, cause I’m not sure what I’ll find with that safety,,,Looks like part of it goes right thru the stock??

Look close Blue, My stock is different,,,I’m thinking aftermarket,,,,and they did a good job, like the spacers....still wondering about that safety,,,going to get brave today and try to dis assemble it,,,found a helpful vid on YouTube last night, so we’ll see.

Normally I hate white spacers, but that lightning bolt motif is pretty cool! As a kid I would have loved it.

Doesn't seem to be much online on the 11a variant -- does it 11 rounds?

I've sort of fallen in love with the aesthetics of 101 16 variant with the imitation Garand stock:

Got it apart today, pretty easy,,,needs to be cleaned. I will take some photos, particularly to show how that safety works,,,,kinda sneaky,

Got it apart, cleaned it, back together, shoots just fine, nice and slick... sweet little rifle, going to enjoy shooting it.
thanks for the suggestions.
