What if the only handguns you could own are revolvers?

meh, I'm old enough that the 38 sp revolver was pretty much a mainstay when I was a kid--I remember cops switching to 357 mags as the flavor of the day before the wonder nines started the semiauto trend. I carried a 38 for years, and can recall one old timer friend of mine switching UP to the 38 from the 32's he had carried for years in order to get more "power" haha. I didn't feel super undergunned back then with my 38--if only I had realized they'd just bounce off a bad guy! haha

but, if that day happened, I'd just break out my model 10 rb snubbies, which are just about a perfect carry gun, and maybe pack one of my j frames as a quick backup, and it wouldn't bother me at all, except for the obvious one step away from concentration camps atmosphere that we'd obviously be living in. I still carry my model 10's sometimes now, even when I have so many semi auto options ;)

I'd have to go with a GP-100, probably a 3" version.
And I'd need to add about 1K of ammo in for practice before I even considered starting to carry it.
I've never been much of a shot with a revolver - autos just fit me better.

And I'd add in a stainless J-frame .38 Spl. I've been thinking about the advantages of one of those anyhow.

I wouldn't want anyone to dictate to me the types of weapons I would be allowed to own, but if "revolvers only" was the mandate I would be OK.

Daily CCW would probably be my 642.

Home defense, either a 686 or a 22-4, both in 4".

Plenty of others to back these up.

Revolver is already my choice for self defense. I also think they are more fun to shoot then most autos. So, I really wouldn't mind.

No big deal I've got plenty of them too.
+1
carry revolvers most of the time any way, probably replace the 1911 45 acp in the night stand with a 4" S&W 610 or 65 then again last time I had my 45 out of service I put a 3" taurus 431 44 special in the night stand and slept like a baby.

my kinda topic...heh heh heh

well, let's see...first off I'll say that this may not be so far fetched as the original poster might think...just look at what California put into law with microstamping & hi-capacity autoloaders...like 10-round mags are hi-cap!!!

my collection:

Smith & Wesson 629 PowerPort in .44 mag; Ruger Security Six in .357 magnum; Smith & Wesson 642 in .38 spl +p

dad's collection:

Smith & Wesson 686 PowerPort in .357 manum; Smith & Wesson in .38 spl +p

the autoloader section:

my Beretta M-9 commercial variant (92FS) in 9mm...hope they never outlaw it, but we're well covered if they do :p

And this:

For my Super-Ninja-Tacticool-Assault Revolver

wow that is one EXPENSIVE piece of hardware!!! I thought the market on 1911's was ridiculous!!!

I would not have a problem with that, as I own quite a few revolver's.
Among my favorites, are a pristine 4" factory nickel S&W model 19-3,
a 2.5" S&W model 66-4, and a 6" (six-shot) S&W 686-5. Also, I own
a Ruger 50th Anniversary Blackhawk .357 ; as well as several 2nd
series Colt* D-frame .38 Special revolvers. Not too even mention the
old '92 matte 2" S&W model 37, or the '79 vintage S&W old model 60;
or even the newer S&W models 442 and 642. And oops, I forgot the
old 2" factory nickel S&W model 10-5 that is resting over in the RSC.

*FootNote: Colt D-frame Detective Specials were made from 1947-1972.

After all, I grew up shoot'in revolver's here in the southeast; so not
all would be lost with a major switch, cuz I still LUV 'em~! ;) :D

For an "Only Revolver" scenario I would go with what I already own. :D

I tend to favor a Revolver over a "bottomfeeder" anyways, and my purchases reflect that fact. For daily carry I would go with either my 22-4 carried IWB or my Compact GP100, also carried IWB. As far as a BUG, I'd use the one I'm carrying now, my 442.

Either gun would also serve as a "House Gun" but I also have a 5" .357 Magnum that I like for that purpose. It has that extra seventh round that I like, although I do tend to "dump it out" live and reload after the sixth shot. That's just because of all the years I've spent shooting six-shooters and not seven-shooters.

I'm one of those people that doesn't feel "undergunned" with a Revolver and in fact I prefer them for a variety of reasons. However, I don't think it's anyone's business but mine if I carry an autoloader or a wheelie, and would hate to see such a ban in place.

I do sometimes carry an autoloader, and have started recently packing a 1911 again.

Revolver utopia...

I would be fine with this scenario. I only own revolvers right now, so it wouldn't bother me one bit.

for plinking:
7.5" single six hunter

for HD:
4" GP100

for a woods gun:
4" Redhawk in .44 magnum

No problems for me. Although I only have one revolver at the momen, 6" Taurus 341 44sp, I would probably quickly acquire a Ruger in 357 and 44, 4 in barrels, S&Ws in 45acp, 44sp and 357mag. Used to carry an S&W Model 19 all the time.

No snubbies though, in any decent caliber they are no fun to shoot and you loose too much in performance. Most of them are only good for making a very loud noise and torturing you wrist when you shoot them. Is not hard to conceal a 4" barrel gun. My CCW instructor's primary carry gun is a S&W 500 with a 5" barrel in a SmartCarry. It is amazing what you can carry while wearing a loose fitting pair of slacks. Think about this, if you are looking to see if a person is carrying where is the one place you probably WILL NOT look?:D

Ruger Sp101 357 3" bbl (already own), Ruger SS Six .22/.22WMR 6.5" bbl (already own), S&W 460 X Frame 5" bbl, Charter Bulldog .44sp, M29 44mag 6" bbl -- just 'cause! Forgot probably one of the most important: Taurus model known as THE JUDGE with the 3" bbl and 3" cylinder!

3'' Model 66 for carry, everything I need and nothing I don't need on it.
6'' Model 686 for target, range, hunting.

I am with JDH -
S&W 58 4" for carry
S&W 57 4" for home
S&W 57 6" for Truck
and for the times when you need a rifle
Marlin 1885 FG (think that's right)

All in .41 mag of course. Must maintain ammo compatibility:evil:
Taurus 85 for pocket carry.

George

Sinc eI open carry, I would prolly pick up a high dollar .480 w/ 12" barrel and a scope for the hell of it. An d then get something like a .45 or .357 for the CCW

I'd stick with my 3” SP101 and my 6” GP100 and be good to go.

What if it was the other way around? What if microstamping becomes the law of the land and revolvers are outlawed because they are incompatible with the “new technology”???

Scary thought.

George,
1894FG is correct. It shoots the Federal 250 Castcore to one hole at 50m (after that my eyes start to open the groups a bit).

S&W .460VR or .500 x-frame... just to piss off the antis. Hell, if I can't carry an auto with enough rounds to wreak havoc on society, then I want a revolver capable of bringing down jumbo jets. ;)

Lets say all semi-auto pistols with magazines are banned and all you could own handgun wise are revolvers.
Then its time to put my semi auto rifles to use

Seriously though, I'd get something like this 627 or a 327PC snubbie for my CCW piece (as bulky as it is).
627-8shot.jpg

• Ruger Security Six .357 Magnum SS 6" :)

• Ruger Super Blackhawk .44 Magnum SS 5 1/2" :D

• Taurus Raging Bull .454 Casull SS 6 1/2"

95% of the time its a s&w 360pd with Crimson Trace grips in the front pocket as it is..
