It's possible, but not recommended. The case is headspaced by the extractor, as you've figured out, but if the round feeds and the extractor for some reason doesn't hold it, you'll get a failure to fire and then no extraction, with a complete round stuck in the chamber, requiring unloading, disassembly and poking something down the barrel to push the cartridge back. If the gun isn't specifically chambered for a certain cartridge, best practice is not to use it.Is it safe to shoot 40 S&W out of a 10mm ? Is there danger of breaking the extractor? I have a G20, 29, and 40 but never used anything but 10mm in them.
