It's too far gone for that one. The barrel has been chopped and the front sight is nothing more than a wedge of steel hard-soldered to the barrel. Trust me, if it had a full length barrel, it would be headed that direction.

I just got a Weatherby Vanguard .257 Wby mag in a Boyds laminated thumbhole stock, dies, 350 bullets, 100 brass, and a full box of 100 gn TSX factory ammo. Got the factory synthetic stock as well.
Traded an old A-Bolt .338 Win Mag, dies, brass, and bullets for it.

Next, both are still NIB. I have not had time to at least verify reliability. It will be more than a month before I will have a day off. Because of no days off, I have these two plus four more guns that are still NIB. To answer your question, I prefer the fit of the Ruger as opposed to the Remington.
